Turbo Street Modified (“TSM”) is a class whose idea had been kicked around for years but came to light in 2002. Scott Simpson and Lonnie Diers got the ball rolling in November of 2001 and by Janaury 2002 the GSCA had agreed to a set of rules and to replace the Turbo Factory Stock class with TSM.

Throughout those 3 months (Nov-Jan) it was quite apparent that there was tremendous interest from both racers and vendors. Drawing from this strength, Lonnie and Scott proposed running TSM at more than one event and holding a point series. Again, interest was high and after contacting several event organizers, 4 events were selected for the first season and the TSM Point Series was born. Lonnie and Scott are the directors for the points series and one or both of them are usually at every event.

TSM rules are relatively simple.  The car must be a factory stock appearing Regal running the stock turbo-engine block, a turbocharger that must be smaller than 71.5mm on the compressor inducer and meet a minimum weight requirement. Complete rules are available by clicking here. Points are accumulated by the registered racers at any each of the events attended, yet only the best three showings count towards each racer's year-end points total. Cash and prizes are awarded to the winners; click here for details. Racers run on a 4-tenths Pro Tree and must run 11.50 in the quarter to qualify for points. The qualifying time was raised to 11.99 for the series in 2003 to allow more racers to compete.
