Can someone tell me how much more power the 4L80E can take over the 4L60E? What is the major differences between the two?

Thanks Dan...

I was trying to figure out what kinda HP the 4L60E could take, or will have to swap to the 80. I'm thinking maybe 550hp tops...

the 4l60e is like a th350 with overdrive. a 4l80e is 400 with overdrive and is heavier duty. much heavier and bigger. may have to do some mods to the tunnel to get it to fit.

Then the 4l60e should be able to handle what I have in mind if setup properly?

Then the 4l60e should be able to handle what I have in mind if setup properly?not really. they can be built up and last only so long at that hp.

Actually this is for a truck project I'm hoping to start soon. I have the 4l60e now, do you think it should require any more fab work to get the 4l80e in there? Or maybe there might be another option, weight is a factor as well?

What would think the weight difference would be?
Or do you think this is just a fact you would have to accept to achieve max duriablity?

Or do you think this is just a fact you would have to accept to achieve max duriablity?the 4l80 is much heavier. a stock converter weights almost as much as a 2004r trans. but you wont use a stock converter.the weight is just what you have to deal with to use the 4l80e. the down side to me is you cant have a trans brake.

Thanks for the input, I'll need to think about this.
I guess it all comes down to how fast do you want to go. I have time, I'm not quite ready to get started, but I thought I might start collecting some parts.

So, what changes are there between the 4l60e and the 4l65e?
Which trucks came with the 4l65e?

Which trucks came with the 4l65e?the planet's that are used in the 4l65e is what upgrade the 700r4's and 4l60e's with. im not sure what year they started but all the very late model trucks and gto's have it.

If I reprogramed the pcm to remove 100% of Torque Management and abuse mode, what adverse effect would it have on the longevity of the 4l60e? I know some tranny builders will tell you right from jump not to use any type of reprogramer to adjust your shift points, which I still don't understand completely.

I have a friend of mine that has a 99 ls1 ram air with the 4l60e. It is a bone stock 4l60e with the torque management removed and the shift points put to 7000 and the car's full weight with the driver was a tad over 3800. The car went a best of 10.56 at 135. On the dyno at futral motorsports on the motor it put down 405 hp on nuts and hit it with a 175 shot and put down 583 hp to the wheels. It finally blew up after 28 passes (23 passes at the track and 5 races on the street.) Check out ls1speed.com and rock on transmissions and coanracing.com(ask for walker he's a real cool guy and knows his stuff about converters and trans). ls1speed has a maximum evil 4l60e trans that will handle 800 hp
