View Full Version : Transmission Specialties TC's, Anybody have one?
I'm looking at their HL-10" 3200 L/u street/strip convertor. Anybody have any input? Seems like a good deal for $346, no core. Also, what would a 3500 non-lock up be like with my combo (see sig)? Would it drive o.k. or not? Thanks.

GeeZ, I've been trying to run a 10" 3400-3600 on the brake not flash with a 60V-1, 210-205 w/ stock heads. Great out of the hole.... did well till it guite locking up. Then driving @ a steady 55 going up a slight incline, like less than 4 degrees required an additional 900 rpm to maintain the same speed. AND no I'm not making this shit up. It really sucked. People that live with non l/u must not drive their cars regularily, for very far on anything but flat F8ckin ground, b/c this really sucked. Gas mileage went away and the sound of the motor straining mad me cry. I drive my car and I like l/u. So this time I'm looking harder to find what the hell it is I want before I give anyone any more $$ for crap results. :add_schac
Before this I had a D-5 which modified but with this combo on the brake barely stalled 2500 before the tires began spinning. This is definitely not enough for the the type of turbo we are talking about. I would say aim for a 3000-3200 l/u from a guy you are willing to talk to ... cause you will probably find your combo will require atleast one restall to make it "right"... the way YOU want it. :marchmell

Give Chris a call at CK Performance. He'll give you the straight goods, even on competitors products.

CPT is California Performance Transmissions which is owned by the real Art Carr, he sold his original co.- Art Carr business some time back. IMO you would want to buy from CPT because they would have his most current technology.

The Art Carr converters have been around for a long time. They spool so well because they are so loose. They are not the most efficient converters either. We have used a LOT of Art Carr converters in the last 10+ years. In cars from Buicks, Mustangs, 57 Chevys. So we have a pretty good handle on how good they are. Art Carr also seems to have a problem with Quality Control.
TCS Performance www.tcsperformance.com (http://www.tcsperformance.com/) (We are a dealer for them) sells the 9x11 converter. The new converter is full billet and has been used in more than a few 10 second cars that were locking up the converter on the top end with no problems.

Which company's converter do you have? Do you have a link to the website?
I want to make sure that no one is confusing your converter with TCS Performance 9x11 converter.
Thanks!

I called CPT directly and the guy on the phone said that it is a myth that the Texas location sells inferior/not as good "ART CARR" products. He said that he doesn't understand what all these rumors are about. True, he said that Art Carr himself doesn't own the business in Texas, But the products that carry his name are indeed his products (for example: Shift kit). The guy also informed me that i could not buy Art Carr products directly from CPT, as they don't sell to general public and that to make a Art Carr Product purchase I was to contact The Texas place. :kopfkratz
Also, I tried loging onto CPT's Website, but to no avail!

The way I look at it, there are already vendors that cater to the Buick Commnunity as a mojority of their business. Performance Tranmissions, CK Performance and TCI are just a few that have put a lot of effort into the Turbo Regal Community.
I personally will only purchase from thos companies because they are committed to the TRs one way or another.

I've been ordering from CPT for a few months w/o any ordering problems. Ask to talk to Steve or Art himself. Art will tell you Texas products are similar but the transmssions have his old technology. They sale to the public.
