I have a stock turbo with a Poston's 3" D.P.
I need to add a CAT to my car to pass emissions.

2 things I am considering:

#1 Port stock elbow, add 3" CAT, and have existing DP coated.

OR

#2 Purchase a new SS Mease/TH DP with convertor.

I do plan on upgrading the turbo, but that may not be for 1-2 years.

Advantages? Disadvantages?

Opinions?

Thanks,
chris

option 2 the only down side is that you ahve to have a cat on your car. but you can get a test or dump for cheap on ebay!

Go stainless! The integral pipes (THDP style) flow better and look great. I'd set it up to swap the cat in just for the sniffer test.

Is there one sold that has the ability to swap CAT and test pipe back and forth? ( Flanged CAT and test pipe?)

I do that with my ATR setup.I take the cat off after inspection and put a test pipe in place.

Same as 6GUN. Go with the THDP, stainless.
You won'e be disappointed.

Maybe you could have a muffler shop add a flange to the forward part of the cat and downpipe so you could unbolt it front and back and then bolt in the bypass.

mease has a Jersey style dump with that already set up. what ever you do just get the Mease pipe and never look back, besides the duttneck the DP is the best bang for the buck mod on these cars!

so go buy it already!

Use a stainless "band clamp" which will not dimple the pipe. Smear a little anti-sieze and it will come off easily too. No special welding required.:arco:

Is the convertor seperate when shipped?

Any perfromance difference between the two? :add_wegbr

At your performane level I can almost guarantee no difference in performance between the Postons DP and a Mease or THDP. The postons pipe looks ugly as hell but it works quite well, especially with a ported elbow. Get into the 11's and it will be a different story.

With my Postons DP I can remove the test pipe any time I want. It fits so tight I dont have any clamps at all on the test pipe and it does not leak. If I unbolt the exhaust then it comes right off

Well, I bit the bullet today and ordered a TH "Jersey Style" DP. I already had a Gift certificate and they only carried TH DP's. May not increase performance but it sure does look good, and I only have to buy it once.

Thanks for the input!
