With your pimp-ass PC, you should have it cracked in minutes! :D

I've got 3 running the program.. P2 2.2, 2.4 and the garage PC - a PIII 850.

I started shutting my stuff down when not in use. I also took my linux box offline. Stuff was generating so much heat and using so much electricity, it was insane.

I hear ya.. When I had the three monitors on my desk, my office would get toasty too. Hmm.. Maybe I should hook them back up. ;)

I'm wndering how much juice this garage computer is using.. 4x10k RPM 9GB UWSCSI drives...

I only have 2 PCs running. One is my main rig, a 2.4C P4 running at 3.0Ghz and 7 hard drives (2 of which are 10k RPM IDEs), the other is a Athlon XP machine with just 2 drives in it I use for other stuff. I did have a dedicated linux PC acting as a router than ran 24/7 but I took it down and replaced it with one of those POS mini routers.

I had a little Linux box doing the same thing, running Smoothwall, then got an SMC wireless router for $25.00. Less noise, and easier to manage..

Yea.. I bought one of those DLink wired/wireless deals. Not as configurable but it'll do.

I finally started building all my home stuff with quiet cases and fans.. I was tired of it sounding like a data center when you walk in!

Considering its 15 degrees outside I don't mind the extra heat :applaus:

My spare PC is in one of those Antec Sonatas. Its pretty quiet. My main machine is in a monster server case tho. I think Im going to get one of those Koolance Evos for it and then take all the case fans out.

That's one thing I like about the wife's Dell (Aside from being dirt cheap) is that it is silent. They use a large heatsink w/a duct to a 120mm fan on the back.

The Sonata's are nice - and Antec has a new noise-reduction kit available - with HDD, PS, And fan spacers..

Some HERE (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?DEPA=1&submit=Go&description=antec%2Cnoise)

I picked up a wired D-link. Definately not business-class... Built-in firewall and NAT is nice, but talk about useless! Not many features or flexibility... To alleviate my pain, I connected my Gentoo server to it, and then a Cisco 2501 connected to the Gentoo box. Another 2501 linked via serial for a mini-CCNP lab. Then, a Red Hat server, a hub, and then my comps, Sun Ultra 10/480, DEC Alpha 21264/600, and XP2400+ and my awesome pII-300 turbolink laptop. Only the latter 2 are running windows, so they're the only systems with the client installed. The others run SETI. :)
