I just had a new pc built that has xp pro. I recently let the password lapse. Now it asks me for my old password before I can change to a new one. The prob is that I thought I knew the password but I get a message that says I entered the wrong password........anybody know a way around this...?

Not to add insult to injury...but if your "smart", you've setup the administrator account with a password you will remember. You can use that account to get in and reset your password. If you didn't reset the administrator password, it may be blank and you may be able to sign in with that ID still and fix your problem.

You know, a yellow stickie note does wonders for retaining passwords. :-)

Did you install the XP? If not, the person that did the installation should have the admin password.. You have to enter one to install XP..

Did it ask you for a password when you FIRST fired it up?

Ok how many other local accounts are set up on this pc if there are more than yours and the admin account have that other person log in providing this other local account has admin rights if you type "control userpasswords2" in the run box you will be able to change the password of the account that you use.
