Just wondering because I went tonight and bought a new 16" electric high flow fan and electric fan thermostat. Did you notice much of a difference without that fan for the engine to turn?

Hey....I put a 16" electric fan on my 83" T-type. Used a 16" 2100 cfm proform fan. Did seem to help some with the drag from the clutch fan. Only thing I dont like is how loud fan is....

Were you able to remove your complete fan shroud? I know on some of my cars the shroud also keeps the radiator in place. I haven't been that far into the regal in awhile and can't remember if it supports the radiator or not.

hi,
no I wasnt able to remove the shroud because of it holding up the radiator. Want to get rid of it but havent found way yet. I know a 86-87 support wont fit.(they have larger radiator)

You can just make some brackets out of metal to hold the ends of the radiator.(look in my picture in my sig) Granted I have a hot air but the set up is the same, i would think. Or you could always chop the top of the radiator/fan shroud away from the rest of the shroud and then bolt the top back down, that way it holds the radiator and the actually part that surrounds the belt driven fan is gone. I hope that made sense. Have you guys ever looked into the dual electric fan setup from Ramchargers.com for like $79.99.....awesome deal......have to hack it a little to fit on my radiator, so probably on yours too.
I dont even know how or why I am in the carb section, just bored I guess. :marchmell

I think you're right that the 83 and 84/85's have the same fan/radiator set up. The NA would use the same shroud, so you could get a junkyard peice and not hack up your original (with it's emissions sticker).
I'll proably get an electric fan, just to have all that room in front of the engine. :)

I'm not 100% sure but I think some of the late build date 85 hot airs used the wider radiator so if you need a V-8 sized shroud that might be a possibility. Another option would be to use a IC or V-8 radiator as they used a steel mounting panel on the top. The IC one is the same as the V-8 with two mounting tabs welded for the electric cooling fan. The cooling fan shroud on a IC car is the same as the Fiero with HD cooling so there is another junkyard possibilty to chose from. I think the upper radiator hose from a 78-80 Lesabre with the Buick 350 is all you need to put the V-8 radiator in. Many years ago I was going to swap in a F-body plastic and aluminum radiator into a 83 coupe with a 4.1 that I used to have and with the exception of the mechanical fan shroud these are the parts that I was going to use.
