How many cage points are required for a TSM car going 9.99 and faster ?? If im reading the NHRA rule book right, anything going 10.0 and faster must have a cage. That means 10pt's w/ a halo.
TSM rules : "Car should possess all applicable safety equipment for potential ET/speeds attained."
Is that NHRA applicable ??

Yes, you need a 10-point cage if you are going to run faster than 10.0 and don't want to get kicked off the track. Assuming the track you are at gives a damn... :deal:

I have a 6 point in my car that is NHRA certified to go faster than 10.00. The key is that the fire wall must be unaltered. Check with your division tech office of NHRA.

Check the picture on page 212 of the 2004 rule book for full bodied cars, 8.50 and slower. It shows a OEM frame cage.

Take Care

So to run it in Bowling Green, just make sure you are wearing a pair of sneakers and have a battery tie down :elefant:

Doesn't 9.99 and faster need a moly tube to be certified for that class? I have a 14 point and am pretty sure it can be only cerified to 9.99 because its mild steel. Not that my track gives a crap if its not leakin or parts falling off its good to go.

No mild steel or chromemoly can be used. The difference is the size of the pipe. Mild steel must be bigger in dia. than the chromemoly.

Now faster than 7.50 in the 1/4 mile is a different story. Now that they have the sfi rating of 25.1 a,b,c,d I don't keep up with them. But there is a limit where chromemoly must be used only.

1 5/8" OD on both CM and MS.
The difference is the wall thickness.
CM = .083", and some bars can be smaller in OD,[1 1/4"] and as light as .049" wall.
On the MS, the wall has to be .118" on all bars, even tho some can be as small as 1 1/4".
The big problem w/ some MS, is the wall thickness varies to less than the minimum .118 from batch to batch, and method of manufacturing.
Alot of installs got by tech back when the drilled hole method was used to verify wall dimensions. Now, w/ sonic tests, that day is gone..
Therefore, alot of installs are made using wall thickness of .134" for a "CYA" factor.
MS can be welded w/ TIG or MIG.
CM HAS to be TIG only.

Sounds like the CM would definitely save on weight.
Good info Chuck, but I guess a need a rule book.....couple more questions if you don't mind. For 10.0 and slower, only a 6 point is required? And I had someone tell me today that some cages bolt to the frame, but I would guess that a "certified" CM must be TIG as you said?
