today I finally got off work early enough to play with my car.
I have a rough idle and a miss like a vaccum leak but could never find it till today.
I also had a really weird whistle/chirping sound when you rev the throttle(fairly high)
After spraying some brake parts cleaner selectivly around the engine and found that the #1 injecter is leaking around the O-ring in the intake manifold.
I'm glad I found it but it sucks that I missed the December specials from Full throttle Speed&Style.
Mike had injectors with extender chip for way cheapand now would be a good time to upgrade.Anyway just thought I'd share(vent)

Sooo, you just spray brake clean around the injector holes on the lower intake.....and if they leak, the RPM goes up? Orr??? Thanks

Sorry for the slow reply 8uwith6
been very busy
What happend for me was the car stumbled really bad when I sprayed the Brake parts cleaner at the leaking area.
I think if you used propane(not lit of course),or starting fluid the engine would idle a little faster if sprayed near a leaky area.
It at least gives a place to start.

I'd be careful spraying brake cleaner around any rubber/plastic parts. It can tear them up and cause more leaks!

Interesting problem. Is there a safer substance to spray around the injectors to check for leaks?

My car makes a strange whistle-like noise at certain throttle position, both in gear and idle. When its in park and you bring the rpm up slowly, you hear the noise and the rpm drops itself. Bring it up a little higher again, still drops. Then if I let off, it sometimes stalls, or just stumbles and picks back up to normal idle again. If you bring the rpm up really high, it doesnt do anything. It's dont his since I've had it. In gear and accelerating I dont notice any affects. I believed it to be the IAC motor. Unsure of why. Sounds kinda like an air harmonic or something, but possibly the IAC motor making noise.

My number 4 injector (I think) sticks up a little higher in its hole in the intake. I'll have to make sure it isnt leaking.

the propane mentioned or fuel injector cleaner - the idle will climb. I'm crazy enough I might even try co2 and see if the engine stumbles a little. That's probably not a good idea though.

That's a very similar problem to what I was going through,
Brake parts cleaner is ok,but don't go washing down the whole engine in it as it is very bad stuff.
If you have small propane torch that works the best, just turn on the gas and move it around the engine till the engine changes in the way it runs(stumbles or revs)Then start inspecting every thing in that area.
Carb cleaner, starting fluid, electrimotive cleaner work as well.

I really dont want to be spraying carb cleaner on my nice powdercoated intake and valvecovers. Electromotive cleaner....do you mean electronic connection cleaner? I have some of that stuff......just looking for the safest, least damaging way to check injectors and other leaks. Thanks!

Yup same stuff,it will work fine,I think WD40 would also, not sure.
Carb cleaner shouldn't hurt powder coat, have you ever tried to remove that stuff. Also you don't want to be spraying a ton of that stuff either way, very harmful to lungs and other vital organs, can also cause cancer with prolonged exposure. :albert:
