has anyone ever bought one of the ebay power antennas...you know, the one for $29.99?? if so, are they any good? i really want to get my power ant back, but i don't see paying 100.00 for it when i can pay 30 or so.

I've almost bought it a million times, but when I consider how much of a PITA it seems like it would be to install, I hesitate.

install is not that bad, you have to take out about 3-4 bolts on the fender, use a piece of wood (4 in piece of 2x4) to wedge the fender out so you can slide your hand inside to remove the bolts. Be care not to pull on the fender to much, some have creased the fender. Make sure you tie a piece of string to the electrical plug before you unhook. It will be a pain in the azz get the wire back where you need it if you don't. Gnttype board has the step by step procedure.
I would think for the price it would be worth a shot on the ebay motor.

I bought one. The base was chrome and not black. I didn't like it and sent it back as the seller instructed. The guy never refunded my money. I even went to paypal and filed a complaint. I'd avoid it...

FWIW & IMHO:
The $ 100.00 ones don't work either.
The ones recommended and/or supplied/sold by GM dealerships does not work either. It is recommended as the direct replacement for the original.
Try about $ 200.00 for an original and you might be there.
What breaks mostly is the plastic strap that shuts the motor off when the antenna is fully extracted or retracted. In this case, the motor would still run but the antenna would not go up or down. If that is what is the matter with yours ther is a repair kit for about $ 30 that works quite well from GM Parts Direct. Naturally the dealerships will not handle it, nor recommend it, as they would much rather sell you a $ 30.00 antenna for about $ 130.00 rather than the repair kit. GM PN 22038195 is the fix-it repair part no.
