Well, I noticed that my Spearco FM intercooler for my 84 GN has oil all over the inside. I have the drivers-side breather, so the oil is coming in from the turbo, bad seals, my guess. Anyone here know about the TA-33 or 49 that would go on our cars?

Hey there, a little oil in the IC isn't a terrible thing, it does build up over time. Check the spring cleaning guide on gnttype.org, I think they recommend carb cleaner to get that crap out of there. You have to watch for white smoke in the exhaust, which would indicate a more serious oil leak in the turbo. You can also yank the throttle body and have a look at the compressor side turbine, you shouldn't see much oil buildup at all in there. If you do, then it may be rebuild time. If you are looking to swap for a bigger turbo, the TA33 is a good unit made by John Craig at Limit Engineering (928-453-7321), you may want to call for more information. The TA49 can be purchased from a bunch of vendors and should be a little more efficient then the TA33, but both will give you more flow with less heat and pressure. I run a TA33, has gone 13.18 on my car with no IC, previously owned by Drew Carlton who ran high 11's with it, again no IC, so it has a lot of potential. Spools great, too.
If you're looking to save a little money and don't worry about making a turbo fit, then I'd buy a used IC'd turbo (like a TA-49 or 60) off one of the boards. My buddy is running my old TA-60 on his 85 WH1. Way more topend than his stock turbo. But if money's not an option then I'd have John Craig rebuild your old turbo into something bigger like a 61 or 62.

I think I'm going to e-mail John Craig and see what the biggest wheels he can stick in our turbos is. I heard TA60 on the compressor, I'm wondering what the flow limit and HP limit is to one of those. I'm also going to ask for more information regarding the TA33 as per my other post in this forum, and post answers. Might as well go to the source!
if i remember correctly,turbo6x2 has the equivalent of a t63 in a stock hotair housing...and that's as big as it'll go...it's a jc turbo,so ask him about it.

I just fired off a message to John Craig for some more info regarding the TA33 (as per my other post in this forum) and will post all the data I get therein, we'll see what the master has to say! :stupido:
