Well, time to start getting some technical information here, this forum looks so empty! Anyways, the ever-popular TA33 is rumored to flow 700cfm at 15psi and be similar to the TA49 from what I understand. This is all good and well, but does anyone actually have any compressor maps or flow information other than these figures? I mean, I bought mine based on these figures, but no one has bothered to provide actual testing information. So what's up with this thing? What turbines does it have, how much does it really flow, does it really compare to a TA49, or more like a TA34? I want numbers, dammit!

Well, from what i understand, the ta33 flows ~700cfm, and the ta49 flows ~800cfm , both at 30psi. I was also told that the ta33 has a to4e style compressor wheel. i don't know much about the turbine side, except that it is a good deal larger than stock, as you can probably see on yours, and that the pitch is much higher than stock also. hopefully at least something i have said helps

I actually just got a response from John Craig and he stated that there was at least 3 versions of the TA33 made... I'm going to measure the turbines and count blades for him to find out what mine has for guts. The biggest we can go is apparently TA62 or TA63 guts in the stock housing, good for low 11's/high 10's, good enough for me! :thrashi:

yeah, that's pretty big guts for the stock housing! i have a ta33c, not sure how that stacks up against the other ta33's though, i didn't know they made that many. do you know anything about the ta34?

. do you know anything about the ta34?

For what I know of it it is in a 86-7 housing

I believe you are correct. The TA34 is an upgraded stock turbo. Internally the same as the 33, but using '87-style housings.

What i am gathering from this is that you can have a TA33 with either a TA49, TA62 or TA63 guts, and it can still be called a TA33. Is that correct? What are the differences in the measurements of each impeller and such? Any other identifiable differences?

Thanks,
Nathyn

I'm not certain if the designation changes based on what is in it, John Craig said he has built several variations of the TA33 over the years. You may want to contact him and see what he has to say about the designations?

Ok
This is my second TA33C and What i did Was got a hold of Lee Thompson and spoke to him in reguards to what he recomended ,and That is after Nesc mods performed ,He has had a few of these units built by John Craig and he said that the last turbo that he sent Lee was the Best one by far.So when I called John He knew what i was talking about ,He also stated that it was no longer nesc to machine turbo inlet bell or the throttle body ,and I realy like this turbo .I am using # 38 psi inj and a chip burrned by Jim Testa
Bottom Line here is I am Extremely Satisfied with the set up By John Craig
Hope this helps

Good stuff, I know I like my 33 as well. I've been talking to Precision about the TA48 turbo, here is the info I got:

The TA-48 will support up to 500 flywheel hp when maxed out. We do offer the larger TA series turbos for use with the 84-85 models, however the housings need to be machined and this could take some time to have done due to our machine shop scheduling. The TA-48 uses the stock 84-85 compressor cover and turbine housing that gets machined for use with the larger wheels. We do these turbos on an exchange basis for $775.00 due to the stock style housings being no longer available thru Garrett.
