Well, before I get all my $hit in my new garage, I was thinking about painting the floor. What's a good coating to use that's oil resistant, non slip and doesn't cost a fortune? I doubt I'll be working in the garage on the car, that will probably be done out on the driveway.

Right up my alley!! Paint Coatings. If the floor is new let the cement cure 6 months. If old and unpainted, wash it with Muriatic Acid & water mix & when dry paint with Epoxy base coating or at the least a Urethane Floor Paint. The urethane is good & strong but either way do 2 coats & follow directions for amount of time between coats! If you want No Slip add some Silica sand to the paint. Any questions just ask as there are still other ways to go as well!

HEY - what do you know about the cement stains? There's a company close to me who manufactures it and they say it works perfect on new or old concrete. Just looking for another opinion...

Cement stains change the finish to a desired look, but the finish for durability is questionable. Depends on how much abuse you intend to give it. I would think its more cosmetic grade than anything BUT I would need to see the product label to be 100%!! You would probably need to clear coat it with polyurethane to give it any long term durability! Make it pretty then clear it with 2-3 coats so it lasts!!

I looked into doing my old painted floor with the epoxy paint from home depot or lowes its 25$ a gallon but the instutions say to wash with acid and let dry then two coats. I didnt have time a full weeekend project of leaving a truck boat and two snap on tool boxes in the drive way for two days.

Remember that no matter Epoxy Or Polyurethane the Key is to Make it Clean & then Follow The Dry Times Between Coats!! If you dont do that it will bite you back within 2 years!! Just wasted time, so treat it like painting your car!!
It will matter in the end result!!!

High build epoxy-mastics work real well. I sell the stuff to warehouses and shipping depots and so far it's held up very well under forklift and foot traffic. Like Justasix said you will need to a non-skid silica to the coating because it is very slick.
The preparation process will be the same for any coating you use. Acid etching followed by a thorough rinse with water. Shoot for the texture of 80g sandpaper. Trust me when I say that you should not use any product that claims it can be applied over slick concrete. It will not adhere. The first time you pull in off the road and park the chemicals in the hot rubber will penetrate , stick , and remove the stuff when you move the car in the morning. This will make a very ugly mess and it's very difficult to remove all of the crap after it has cured.
Don't go to Home Depot or Lowes. Try someone that supplies the pros. Duron , Sherwin Williams , Porter Paint , Glidden/ICI etc. They won't bs you just to sell something and are usually staffed with well trained people. Try to speak to a manager or outside sales rep if they have one in the store.

Like Coldknock said NO Home depot Garbage!! Go to a real Paint Coatings Manufacturer!! Not some kid making minimum wage selling the in house store special of the week!!! They are not knowledgeable with paint coatings! I know from Personal Experience!! You get what you pay for & PREPARATION is the Key to Lasting Durability!!!

Definitely don't use any paints for garage flooring. Epoxy is the way to go. Like previously mentioned, a high quality industrial type will last the longest. I went the cheaper route and used Rust-Oleum's new product called Epoxy Shield. http://www.rustoleum.com/brand.asp?frm_brand_id=19&SBL=1 Yes, I bought it at Lowe's. It's only been 9 months but I have been very pleased with the results. No peeling from hot tires. Great resistence to auto fluids make clean up a snap. Nice finish sheen - not too glossy or flat. The key is definitely having fully cured concrete and preping it. It does require like 5 days before you can drive on it although you can walk on it in 2 days. Perhaps it won't hold up in the long run, but I think it's a great value at this point.
Would like to hear from anyone else who may have had poor results with this product.

$300? For what size floor? I'm curious what I should expect to spend for a single car garage, including the silica.

Let me throw my opinion in here. I did my 3 car garage about 4 years ago. I used a 2 part epoxy kit I bought from Home Depot. Actually I used 3 kits at $60 each. Total cost $180.
I followed the directions for cleaning (went overboard and powerwashed the whole thing)..... and only used one coat. The kit supplies colored chips to sprinkle onto the wet paint. This stuff is durable!!! The only scars I have are where I messed up while welding or hit the floor with something heavy. The slicks do take very small chips off the floor. But nothing really bad or ugly.
When I built my house, I laid visqueen (plastic) down before we poured the concrete. I think this also helps keep the paint on the concrete because the slab absorbs alot less moisture from the ground.
This coating is impervious to brake fluid, gasoline and the occasional Exxon Valdez-like oil spills that happen from time to time. My garage is a workshop not a car storage area. It gets used alot. This stuff cleans up very nice with Simple Green or any other degreaser and a mop.

Use what Turbodave used, but for long term also clear coat it with with a clear 100% solid epoxy. These are self leveling & can take daily use from forklifts & such machines. The flake will never come off when the hot tires
sit on them. Single car garage should be roughly $200. Do it once & never worry again. Nothing looks worse than peeling floor paint & its a pita to fix!
