Our Government, what a PITA, and I know its not just Kalifornia, but...

A friend gets a traffic ticket (really it wasn't me) for nice ambiguous catch all violations
22350 CVC Speeding (Unsafe) [Basic Speed Law]
and 21703 CVC Following To [sic] Close
Completely arbitrary SUBJECTIVE enforcement, how can you defend against what is totally the cop's opinion... ARRRRGH. And to here her side, late night (sober) only one car around (the friend she's following) and viola, a revenue enhancement agent of the county tags her

Trying to help her plan, I try to found out what the FINES (Bail what a BS term) YOU CAN'T. Not even the mighty Google can sleuth out what LA County fines are, cause as you know LA is one of the 30 California counties that can charge in EXCESS of the CA uniform FINE (bail) schedule.
Holy crap the state std fees can be $171 and $136. Its crazy that tables are used to show the basic amount, special fee one, special tax two, and special penalty three which added all together equals total fine (er bail)

The Republik has everyone over a barrel. they might send a "courtesy notice" but they're not required to? within 21 days, but the court date on the ticket is 24 days from issuance, yet the Court says to allow ten days for the mail.

Strangely, if the cop can say show up (and plea, pay or bend over) on this day, let me guess, this is just plea day to set court date. then he takes a day off to get overtime.

Oh I forgot to mention, COMPTON Courthouse. Of course she'll pay to avoid going there.

Sometimes, I really look forward to the fascist small-town mid-western cops with their 300 foot "residential zone".

Sorry had to vent

They'll track me down now.

That place is out of control.....no problem though- everybody's moving to CO so it will probably be a nice place to live again in a few years.

Do what I do, I show up on last day, get an extension. Then, I show up on the last day of the extension and request a trial by written declaration. This is you writing en essay to the judge about your side of the story. Then the cop writes his side of the story. The cool thing about this is the cop gets paid to show up in court, but recieves nothing to write a letter. If you do the extensions correct, the case is now 3-4 months old and he can't remember what the hell went on, hopefully. Now, if the cop writes back and you are found guilty, you still have the right to appeal and take him to court, but by then, 5 months have passed and the cop's will has hopefully been broken. I have a 2-1 record with this method so far, make sure you can do it, this works in San Diego County, but I don't know about LA. Good luck. :beerglass

One of my good friends is a bailiff at the Compton Courthouse. He is a white guy too. Not that it makes any difference.
