I've been watching the T6P Giveaway contest..

As of right now, there's 299 replies, and 2,375 views..

YET there's (in my opinion) VERY few new posts in any section.

If you can take the time to enter a contest, you can take the time to contribute to this killer new resource for our cars. Pisses me off that it takes a contest to get these people out of the woodwork, but hopefully once they log in and ask to be included in the contest, and see how simply bad-ass this board is, they will start contributing.

Have a question? Wondering about something with our cars? POST IT!! No matter how stupid/silly the question may seem to you, it may help someone else in a similar predicament.

I understand the board is new, and it is a growth process, but cmon.. help out EVERYONE by posting you experiences, either technical or otherwise, in the Sandbox.

As for all the questions that have already been asked to death and may sound pretty simple or even silly, just remember that this is a new board and if it isn't asked the first time then it won't show up when someone searches for something. We really do need to build up database here with some good technical questions, then we can use the good old line about the search button :add_wegbr

So lets see some substantial posts....and not another useless "me too" post or some off color flame like this. Nothing wrong with that - a damn good idea too. Marketing, either for profit or growth is a good thing, and members win in the long run. I just would like to see some of the hundred or so names I see in THAT thread, show up in other threads. I'm sure some will, just irks me, that's all.

Actually it really hasnt been a membership drive. There have been less than 100 new members sign up since the contest started.

Basically I thought about a lot of scenarios for the contest and couldnt come up with anything that worked better than this. I thought about giving stuff to the person who had the most referals (A true membership drive) but that opens the door up to fake users that Id have to prune out later. Doing this, I can track everyone by IP and email address and while that's not foolproof, I can hopefully keep entries to a single one per person.

So, if you have any ideas about how the next contest can be better (And yes, there will be at least 1 more after this one) then please let me know.

Bottom line is Ive done what Ive done here for the community. Giving stuff back to the community I thought would be a big hit because, well, no one else has done it before. Just goes to show you can't always make everyone happy.

Man try to do something nice and people always find something negitive to say. Jay asked me to come up with some ideas for a contest I say, "lets give some stuff away", he says "I don't have anything" I say, "I do". In ten minutes we put this together and now we hear "I just wish the first contest wasn't a membership drive" Hows that work? Did Jay or myself go to other places and spam the world? No. Have a ton of new people come flocking over here? No. I don't get it. Jay gives me some free advertising space plus I am a moderator here so I figure I can give it back and help the board this way. A couple guys get some free parts and everyone is happy, well I guess not everyone. I have a drawing at Christmas for my customers, gave away $200 in gift certificates. Did not have to, didn't gain anything I know of, thought it would be nice though and it was. Got crap for that too by e-mail, accusing me of stuff. I just don't get it. Sorry for the rant. I like it here, seems like quite a few folks like it here, Jay is commited to adding lots of new things to the board and going where no one else has. I shared my vision for what I would do and planned to do with my old board. Stay tuned and PLEASE spread the word to all your Buick buddies and ask them to at least check this place out (now THAT was a membership drive)
