So I never go onto ebay and bid on things. I have never won anything when I do bid. And I have only bid on somethign maybe 5 times.
But last week I bid on a NEW TA60/.930 with from limit. By-golley I ****ing won the stupid thing. I bid with 15 hours left. Now I F-ed myself. :add_shit:
I have a stock converter, 36lbers, and a street chip by Neal waiting to go in.
Suggestions on what to do. Run it and live with the lag. Buy a converter. Or see if I can trade it back with Limit...

I ran a PT-53 with a stock converter and stock injectors.
If it was me I'd put it on, and upgrade the rest later...Yes it will lag, but that'll just get you motivated to get a good stall.
I only say this because you said your stock turbo was dying...If you still had a good turbo I'd tell you to put it on the shelf and wait for the money to buy a converter.
Now just to make myself clear, I am assuming you want to go fast enough to justify a turbo of that size...If you only want to go high 11's I'd sell it to someone that wants to go low 11's, and with the money you get out of it buy a TE-44/TA-49.

Well, again- I'm just thinking I could help you out. I have a stock turbo with less than 1000 miles on it since a professional rebuild (zero shaft play) that I could give you to hold you over until you went with something else. Let me know if you need the help.

Sounds like you're likely gonna hafta let the intercooler sit full of gasoline overnight. :add_shit: I wouldn't go throwin' a huge ass turbo on there until you get everything else sorted out first. Unfortunatly, no. I wanted to do it last weekend but time flew by and I was working on other aspects of the car.
Car idles fine, except super rich which is the open loop chip. Drives ok, super rich at cruse. Again, thrasher chip.
Its when I start giving more than 5 lbs of boost the KR starts coming up.
I know I know, if the turbo goes on, the boost will be Loooooow until I figure the stuff out.

You really need to put in your sig what upgrades you've got. Do you have an adjustable fpr? How does your fp look after you kill the car? Does it hold pretty much the same, or does it drop off?

I have a POS electric one that needs to be changed with a real one. I'll check if it holds this afternoon.
I just put in the Walbro this weekend.
yes I got a adj fpr, Kn, duel exhuast, 160 thermo, walbro 340, duel air bags.
the knock is not the MAF, not the chip, not the ignition/coil pack, not the computer, and not the octane(103) has been in it.
The next two things I can think of are injectors or my turbo is blowing oil...

Well lets hope its the injectors becuase if it isn't I am done trying to solve the problem. I'll turn the boost down to 5 and just drive it like that. I don't feel like tearing the engine out just yet. Maybe in 2-3 years :dong:

I bought a Flare wrench set from Sears last night. Remember I broke the chink ones last weekend...

53 with stock converter and injectors? Could you please tell us how that treated you?
330 HP 420 TQ@the wheels, no knock...a little rich down low and of course the converter was to tight...but it worked.
Trick is all in the chip and the FP...I had to run some high FP's, and the chip burner could have taken some fuel out down low to compensate (I never took the time to get it reburned)...I ran it at 47 PSI line off, and 24 PSI of boost on the dyno.
It could have made much more power with more supporting mods, but it was never in danger, it was always rich, never leaned out.
Would I do it again?? Only if I was in the situation Led is in...It was a DOG down low.

Look at the compressor side.

I don't know, looking and the wall thickness of the inlet on the stocker compared to your turbo, there does appear to be a difference. Your turbo has much less thickness in the inlet area. It would indicate a larger compressor turbine. Got a dial caliper?

He's coming over to my house this afternoon and I've got a dial caliper there. What should we specifically check for?

ok well the "inlet" fins/ compressor side, maf side, fines are alternating. One tall, short, tall, short...
I thought that that indicated a stocker...
It doesn't appear to be bigger either.
I will check today.
Anyone know the sizes to check for?
I will have a caliber tool.

I would tell you to go to http://www.precisionturbo.net/ but it seems to be down.
They list all the sizes of the wheels so you could measure the wheels and find out what turbo it is.
Remove the housings and measure both wheels both the small part of the wheel and the larger part...Someone here can probably get you close, and/or the website may come back up and you can check the list yourself.

Based on the pictures, the inlet looks bigger. Could
it be a TA-49 ?
edit: I just checked, and a 49 has equal length blades on the
compressor wheel.

I measured teh inlet and outlet housing. The numbers are in the car. The new turbos #'s are bigger. But like I said I was looking at the blades so I though different. I will call Limit to find what I have for sure. thanks
