posted in tta specific about these, just looking for a few more ideas. started changing valve springs on my 1989 tta and found black stem seals on exhaust valves, orange ones on intakes. bought fel-pro viton seals(part# SS 72623) for the intakes. thought you only replaced intake seals. because these are different heads than a GN do you replace seals on the exhaust valves? can i just order more of the fel-pros or is thier specific part# for the exhaust? sorry to be a PITA but i'm at a standstill until i can get some help.

I just had my heads ported a couple of months ago and when I took them off of the car I noticed that there were seals on both the intake and exhaust valves. All the seals were black and had a metal band around the bottoms. When I got the heads back from the machine shop I noticed that they had put seals on both the intake and exhaust valves also, but the seals were a different kind than the ones that they had taken off. When I asked about this, they told me that they used a different style of seal but either was OK.
From what I've read I don't think that you have to put seals on the exhaust valves, but some do just for peace of mind. I personally would put them on.

thanks for the info. i decided to use the fel-pro's on intake and exhaust, now it's too freakin cold in the garage to work on it. guess i'll just keep cruising the board.

Don't really need them on the exhaust. When I did mine on the original setup the exhaust didn't have any. Most people I talk to adviced against it.
