hi all , in the middle of rebuilding a stock turbo for the everyday driver and i've got a couple of quick questions. the star shaped washer that is on the backplate is concaved. saw on some of the sites that this probably would be the case. i hammered it close to flat but when i installed it, it goes back to the shape it was in. will this be OK? there wasn't a new one in the rebuild kit, so i'm assuming i have to reuse it. i was going to turn it around but it feels like one side has a smooth edge whereas the other side isn't as smooth. dont know if this would affect the thrust washer or not. second question involves the carbon seal. any tricks keeping it positioned prior to mating the backplate and the center housing? the spring keeps popping the carbon seal out before i can get it seated. the kit i got didnt have any instructions or diagrams. i've found a blow-up online but dont have the legend TIA, keith

I used the instructions on gnttype.org All went well. My kit from Limit (~$80) had the star spring washer thing. Where did you get yours?

Good luck

when you installed the star washer was it slightly concave? i flattened it out but when installed it went in bowed.
also did you put in a new carbon seal? if so, was the spring held in place by the flat steel washer that locks under the three tabs? my memory of the disassembly is somewhat clouded about this point--sucks getting old and working swing shift 12 hrs before attempting to work on things.
