I was curious as to whats available for 86-87 TR and 89 TTA coil

From what is says on Jeg's site, the Accel coil pack is a
Magnavox coil. I've just been shopping around... Are the
Magnavox coils all they're cracked up to be, or is that just
a sales pitch ?

FWIW & IMHO:
Not to dis anybody here that has responded on this thread, and I hope that no one takes it that way, but the Kirban's coil pac is considerably less expensive, or so I have heard, because it does not bear a GM part no and does not come in a normal GM box/container. Kirban's offers this as a GM original part so I am sure that it is. There was a discussion over on either Turbobuicks or turbobuick regarding this very same observation and everybody said that it worked great, just everybody was not sure of it's origin. Only noting an observation here on a FWIW basis. I am going to get one from a GM dealer at an exorberant price of about 133 + tax for a spare, but I am going to get one of the Kirban's at $ 60 also as a spare.

An employee of Kirbans responded to a thread on either tb or tbs and I thought he said they were GM parts.

I use a "hot" coil from GM they were for like an early 90's Lumina that was built to run on methanol(that is if you run the type II ingnition) they were 30$ apiece...works great on mine and my dads car.....I've got the part number if interested...

...the part number is...GM-1106008
the bottom of the coils are green to let you know they are the hotter coil.......as far as pics....you will have to visualize what a coil looks like

You had completely changed the setup. I was actually looking into direct replacements though. I have replaced a lot of those coils over the years, but the good thing about them is you don't have to replace them all if one goes bad. :albert:

Yes I did change over to the type II, at one time I was chasing an electrical problem and I changed over to get the best possible spark available

I think that the general consenus of opinion on that thread was that the coilpaks were not marked with a GM part no, or the normal gn part no, and that thye did not come in a normal blue & white GM box/container. Kirban's knows something that we don't, that is for sure. Kirban's could have bought them direct from the manufacturer of the coil, and as such, they could either have no marking or could have a marking that we are not familiar with. I have never heard a single complaint regarding these coils.

FWIW & IMHO:
After reviewing all of the sites Rob referenced in his post it becomes very apparent that Kirbans price is the best of all of them. It also becomes very apparent that all of the coilpaks appear to be the same ones other than Accel, who uses a brass, brass plated, or gold colored contacts. I could not find Summit's listing. Another thing apparent is that virtually all of the other suppliers list them as high performance coilpaks, which could possibly explain why the coilpaks are not marked with a GM part no. nor come in a GM blue & white box. I won't mention any names here, but notice that one of the vendor's puts several blue initial decals and then charges $ 160, or something like that. My guess is that all of those coilpaks are identical, other than Accel. and Accel might be having his coilpaks made by the same manufacturer as the other ones, only having the manufacturer using gold colored/brass contacts so his are not mistaken by buyers as the others.
My gawd, $ 160 for a $ 60 coilpak & apply 3 decals.
