View Full Version : Hood badges
Where can I find out how to properly place my hood badges? I might end up sticking them on. Right now I'm going to try to do the magnet on the badge trick.
Will the badges fly off with the magnets?

not sure i would trust magnets that small to hold....think of it this way, how easy is it to pull them off with your hand using magnets, vs whatever was used orig? im guessing the lbs of force needed is A LOT less with magnets

The badges get centerd on the sides of the bulge verticaly and horizontally. I wounn't put them on with magnets. A couple of months ago I ran across a car in the parking lot that had one of those ribbon magnets attached for a while. Paint was baidly scrached under where the mangnet had been. I guess it move just enought to do dammage.
Awww, I thought that was a great idea. I have two sets of badges so if one blew off I'd just replace it. When you say scratches, that ruins it. Oh well. Ima just going to stick 'em on. Thanks guys

It looked like someone had took fine sandpaper to the paint in the exact outline of one of those ribbons. May not be a problem if they had cleaned it good but then again it may have.
The reason I was going to magnet them is so I wouldnt have problems with the wax getting into places I cant reach. I'll just tape them on and be VERY careful. Dont they make a wax brush that wont scratch paint but will remove excess wax?

One idea that I think looks great and avoids the wax buildup problem is to get the emblem airbrushed on, and you wax right over the top of the thing. Not sure how much it would cost for that sort of work, but I may go that route if I ever decide to put badges on (right now it's just plain black everywhere).
I thought about that but I gotta stay traditional. The stickons shine in the sun and grab attention. Thats my opinion though. Plus it adds a little bulk to the buldge:)

They do but an old toothbrush does about the same and is basically free. You can use a new one if it belongs to someone you don't particularly like.
I did use a soft brush once and noticed it made small little scratches...very minor but still. Is there a special brush that wont scratch basecoat/clear?
