i would recommend the spearco front mount interrcooler. it comes with all the piping u need and is definetley going to drop the car temp and add some horsepower, its going to make a world of difference almost like having a new car. the kit costs around 1200 and u can order it from poston or u can call spearco yourself and order it from them.

Why do you need an intercooler?

Shoot some meth to it.......a helluva lot cheaper and you get all the ponies that an ic would give you....good luck

i would like an intercooler because i want cooler temps. i dont dont want air 250 degrees getting pumped into my engine. and a boost in performance would be nice too.

...shooting alky or meth to it does the same as an ic...it costs less, no crazy plumbing and alot lighter

^^^^^ what he said, besides you don't need a intercooler to run a good number

Dosen't your fast hot air have so many mods it don't even resemble a stock hot air anymore?I mean if you have 15,000 in your engine to get it to be a fast hot air,is it really all that practical?Just what I've heard,I guess a pic of your engine compartment would give the rest of us hot airs an idea of what it will really take.At least in appearance anyways. If it appears stock,I will .... :anbet: to you! It is just hard for me to grasp, especially after seeing so many hot air sigs. with a ton of mods to stock equipment not even close to touching you Jamie.

Dang!Didn't mean to sound so rude,I guess I am just itch'in to know what your combo really is,It's easier to copy than forged ahead on your own!

Hey did you guys hear the one about the fool who says I've spent all this money on my motor and it doesn't even look like a hot air anymore? This coming from someone who
A- Doesn't know me
B- Never even seen the car.

Interesting... Maybe he should stop :joint: or quit smoking crack. You really should check out edit before you leave a post like that on a public board. Cause now you will never know what I actually posted to your comment..

Have you ever checked out the library on this site? Must not, cause my build is listed.
And by the way pictures of my motor compartment have been on www.turbobuick.com for over 3 weeks under the hot air section, you might want to at least know what you're talking about before you make assumptions.

Hey Jamie! Got ur mail. I was not too suprised to see someone comment about an 11 sec slip in a hot air being so expensive. What I am suprised to see, is that he could have PM'ed ya or emailed ya, rather than posting on a board blasting a sticker price that isn't anything of what you spent! I feel, no biggie, he apologized:

84T-typeMike: Dang!Didn't mean to sound so rude,I guess I am just itch'in to know what your combo really is,It's easier to copy than forged ahead on your own!

But I do see the insult laying in the post previous to that one. FYI 84ttypemike, I am currently undergoing a massive transplant on my car, with a very simular set-up to Jamie, however, 15000 would be my total investment in the paint, motor, trans, interior, and trailer, along with my GMP and NASCAR collections.

it does cost a few extra dollars to build up a quick hot air, however, to give you an example:
1300: roller motor set up from dave weber
650: .030 block w/ trw forged pistons from Herb Fishman
750: 2004r transmission, built with all hardened parts/performance clutches, and an 86-87 valvebody
500: ported and polished heads by P&W machining up near me
300: Ported, polished, ground down EGR hum INTAKE by i win engineering
725: TA54 turbocharger by www.precisionte.com
425: 3400 lock-up converter
350: SMC alky injection kit
300: Ken Mosher 65 lb injectors
350: Mease DP

total: $6950.

This total package is estimated high, being that I have not bought all these parts yet. In actuallity, 5000 seems fair to have an 11 sec hot air, with good tuning, and good hook-up at the lite. Crank up the boost and go!!!

That is going to be my basic set-up in a year or so, as soon as I graduate college. For now, the heads are in the shop, Dave Weber is gettin started on my roller set-up, motor sits covered on the stand, next to the DP and up-pipe, trans sits in another car in my driveway, intake is on the basement work bench, and everything else is steadily being saved up for, while I am in college.

Give or take a 1000 bill, you are looking at 5000 to 6000 for a consistent 11 sec Hot Air, no IC.

For that same 1000, you can buy an aftermarket intercooler kit, or for sumthin like 2500 or maybe less, you can buy a set-up that is being made right now (turbobuick.com, HOT AIR section), but as I see it, my car looks 100 percent stock, minus the color detail I put in. It will be shiney, fast, and fun, but still hold the original config, NO IC FOR ME!!!!

An LC2 motor usually sells for around 2800 on ebay. an 86-87 GN or T-Type is usually found in the $5000 dollar range (not much lower on e-bay), give or take mileage, and rust. On top of that, add the Injectors, DP, Chip, Converter, Porting of heads and Intake, Cam, and Turbo, and that can be a 10 sec car, but now you just spent $10,000 on a car and mods. The Hot Air's usually sell for around $2000-$3000, depending on same factors, and if they are higher, they are really clean, or already fast. Sink that $6000 into it and already, you are $1000 ahead of the intercooled car, and to boot, you can sink that extral $1000 to more mods for quite possibly a high 10 sec car like lee's!!!!

I always feel that the IC cars were born faster, but it still cost the same to be fast in the long run. You want IC, buy a kit and slap it in, but you are better off with an LC2 conversion for the practicallity and availability of parts for the IC car. If you buy an IC for your hot air and slap it in, you still have an 84 motor, trans, computer, exhaust, and so on...These all need to be up-graded for that 11 sec miracle number!

If I wanted an IC car, I would have bought one. I never knew the difference between the 84 and the 87 until I bought my 84 five years ago. Now I want both....This baby: www.my84t-typenj.50megs.com, and I want an 86 GN for my play car.

Get an IC, and you still need to beat that car up to get into the 11's, or spend 700 less on alky, and get up-to-date with all the other mods!!!

my 2 cents!

Thanks John! You know how much I'm willing to help folks out who want to build a hot air. Hey, if you want something it takes a lot of hard work.
