Winter/commuter car is a 95 Maxima. 150k runs awesome, solid and 28mpg.

Problem is that I'm getting water on the rear floor pans of it? It's got a sunroof and I'm thinking that the drain lines may be plugged up. With the sunroof open I can see 2 drain holes in the front corners of the sunroof, cannot see any rears though. I know I had a similar problem with my GN where the lines blocked up. Have any of you experienced this before?

Joe,

I work for a Nissan parts dept. The picture shows the sunroof drains are at the rear of the channels. They should go down the rear c pillars and out the floor pan area in the rear quarter area.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Mark, I'll have to check that out. Both rear floorpans are soaked. I was like..wtf, why does it smell like mold in here...hadn't driven it in like 2 wks...both floors were wet. I noticed it before but thought I had left a window open. Only thing I can think of is that the water is coming in from the drains somehow. Hey, since you have access to the parts books, could you look up one more thing w/a part and price if you got it?

I need the plastic mounting thing for a non power antenna. Looks like it clips on the bottom of the mast and fastens to a hole in the rear quarter.. mines broke and the antenna is just sittin there w/a big hole in the 1/4.

Thanks Mark, I'm looking at "D" and it does not look like mine. That picture makes it appear that the antenna has an "L" bracket at the bottom that bolts somewhere...mine doesn't I noticed it says 1996, mines a 95, dif maybe?

Joe all 95 thru 99 should be like the pic. Most of em had a power antenna though. I don't have the manual type base in stock or else I would look at it to see if there is supposed to be a bracket..

Your vin should be like JN1CA21D..etc.. if you have this type of model Maxima.

The "D" section is the parts that the manual type uses.. hum.... Does yours have the upper parts that keep it in the 1/4 panel on the top side? The factory ones almost always are supported at the bottom as well.

Keep me posted.

I will take a pict and post it. At work right now. Going from memory, I am sure there is no type of bracket that holds the bottom in, there was just some sort of plastic push in bezel that held it in the 1/4 that broke. So now I've got it sticking up from the 1/4 panel, but resting on the trunk floor, so it only stick out about 7-8 inches. Reception sux :) And yea, about every other one I see on the road has the power antenna. Pretty strange as this car is pretty well loaded w/power everything, moonroof, ac etc.

Wierd - I replaced the antenna unit on the wife's 96 I30, and it had a metal bracket on the bottom. Now she remembers to lower it going through car washes. :add_shit:

That makes sense for a power antenna to brace the motor and such, but for a fixed mast antenna it doesn't since there's no weight to it. I'll snap a pict, actually Kim's home today, I'll have her do it

Joe,

That sure looks like an aftermarket antenna. The Nissan manual mast antennas that I have seen all have the tube extending down lower and a bracket to secure it below. If you think about it, it is a good idea to have a lower support bracket even on the manual type since the thin sheet metal on the 1/4 really isn't going to hold it all that well. Even with the proper upper nut and bezel it could be bent over to easy without the additional support. I am guessing that maybe somewhere down the line the OEM antenna was swapped out for the one you have.

Get me the whole vin and I will see if the car came factory with a power or manual type unit.

OK, I will get the VIN for ya. I'll also poke around behind that panel and see if there is some remnants of another antenna ever being there like a cut lear or bracket or something.

OK, just checked...you're right. It is a universal type one. There's the cut orig wire for the antenna there and one strand of wire, yes ONE single strand connecting it to the antenna. No wonder the reception sucked! So, now I'll have to look on ebay or something for a power ant assm or a fixed mast. I dont feel like paying $100 bux or whatever the dealer gets for a new one.

How do you splice an antenna lead???

u1arunit

Stop in to Radio Shack and buy a coax wire splice kit or the like. Just tell them what you're doing and they will fit ya right up.

Cool, I will. Any idea on a ballpark for a stock power ant? Over 150 I would guess. I found one for 10 bux, untested on ebay....may shoot for that so at least it will mount right. If it don't work I could repair or leave up all the time.

Use NGK plugs only.

Most likely the stored code will be for an O2 sensor like was already stated. They are pretty much crap. They are getting worse on the newer cars and they ain't cheap either.

Hey, what's the prefered plug in the 3.0? Bosch, NGK? 150k on it and getting an SES light on it. Figure do the routine maint plugs/wires type stuff and see what's up. Don't know what's been done to it.

I keep getting an SES - It's one/2/3 of the o2 sensors.. Probably your problem too.

3 O2s on these cars ? Holy crap. I figured it was the O2 as well, but since I can't say WHEN the last tuneup the car had, I may as well just start there. I still get 28mpg out of it though! Just get the SES light and a rich exhaust smell every now and then. But I would agree...that's probably the problem.

I picked up the car at an auction for 2k w/123k miles on it last year. It's got 150k on it now and I've only changed the oil in it every 3k, so its' in need of the routine BS.

Yea, there's one near each exhaust manifold, and one in the rear. Autozone was the cheapest I found so far.

THe ECM is located behind a small kickpanel near the gas pedal - I think I have the way to get the codes and reset the ECM around here somewhere..

Any idea on the brand plugs in them? Or if they are easy enough to change? I haven't looked yet to see how accessible the rear plugs are or aren't.

Hrm...the thread seems to be messed up with recent posts being tossed in the middle rather than the end??

Anyways, I seem to remember NGK from my high school days working at the parts store :) I checked a nissan site online and they wanted $60 for the set... crazy. I think they go for about $4 each locally. I'll check them out.
I will check on the 02 which it likely is after I get it in good tune.

Any idea on the cost of an ant?

Hey Mark, does your dealership have an internet parts discount? I found the plugs online at www.nissanparts.org for cheap, figured I could get them from you if you guys did since you've helped me out. $11 plugs for $8, local dealership won't even budge off the 11...dicks.. Gonna get the normal filters and stuff too..

Holy crap...yea, I found it on their site too and it was like 135 or something. I'm going to watch this ebay auction and see if I can pick it up. Worse thing is that it dont work and I have to leave the antenna up all the time..no biggie.

Hey, what's the deal with these spark plugs..where the F are they? Direct injection, they under the valve cover or something, do I need some gaskets to put new ones in or something??
