Doing a roll bar shortly after the Holidays and have a couple of questions. Do most of you with the 5 point harness setups also do the passenger side too? You know, in case you go out blasting around on the street or do you just leave it a lap belt?
Also,
Who makes a nice kit with swing-outs that goes up and through the package tray without needing to remove the speakers tieing into the trunk but also clearing the doors without needing to notch them? 6 point.

I have an alston roll bar in my 70 chevelle. I opted not to use the swingout door bar (and have a removeable steering wheel), but I did order the contour bar that runs the roof line and drops through the package tray. I just don't (on a GN) how it will not affect the speaker location. But I'm satisfied with alston products.

Jesse,
you can split the top and bottom half of the back seat and run the bars to the frame too. The door panels do not have to be notched at all, nor do the seats on a properly bent custom bar.....

Hey Jesse - I just ordered/received a Chromoly Roll bar from S&W (they have mild steel too), very nice stuff. All the bars are fish mouthed and pre-angled. I have yet to install it though.
I ordered the optional "prostreet" bars for the rear. The regular kit comes with bars that go through the rear seat. The pro street bars run along the roof line and through the package tray. I Also ordered the swing out kit since I drive the car on the street alot.
The rear bars can be located where ever you want (I'm going to run mine through the rear speaker holes). Where the bar goes throught the rear tray will depend on the installation.

I just got back from picking mine up at their location. I got the 8 point with swing-outs and Pro-Street rear runners. I will probably only use it as a 6 point though. I had planned on getting Bill to put it in but a guy I work with made me an offer I couldn't pass up on the install and he is only about 12 miles away so I can keep an eye on it or help out. The complete setup as a whole weighed 125 lbs. on my scale. The way I am going to use it I figure 110 lbs. Everything looks real nice and I had a chance to see the Pro-Street bars in a car installed and they look nice. Just curious why you would want to go through the speakers? I was thinking about having mine bent a little so I can keep the speakers there. Anyone have this done?
Total cost was $236.00 on the end of the year special.

Had a 6 pt custom made 2 years ago. Race & show the car. Just had the same guy revise it to a 10 pt. Looks nice- it is bent to go just outside the rear speakers. I have custom swing outs also- I can send a photo if your thinking of modifying yours. Larry

If you get the swingouts, prepare for rattle fest!

On the street I plan on taking them completely out. They better not rattle then

I have no rear speakers...so going through there doesn't matter to me.
I also plan on running mine with out the swing outs on the street but I'm sure with a little creative work, they could be rattle free either way.
WOW - 125lbs, glad I went chromoly.
You can probably avoid the speaker holes by just rotating the tube a bit (to the out side) I wouldn't imagine you'd have to rebend them.
Jesse, when I ordered mine, they sent me the prostreet bars AND the original rear down bars. Kinda nice, never know when I might need the extra tubes...Did they include the rear straight bars with yours or was mine a fluke?

You got lucky! Mine didn't. I am kind of glad anyways.... less for me to carry! Have you weighed your pieces yet to see what weight you are looking at? Would be interesting to see what the two exact kits weigh vs. each other out of the different materials. What would be a good and worthwhile weight savings.... 50 lbs.?

chromoly weighs 38% less then mild steel. It's also a smaller diameter too.
I know I carried all the tubes except the center bar about 50 yards all at once. No idea what it actuallt weighs, I should have lloked at the packing slip.

38% puts you right at 50 lbs. less or 75 lbs. total. Pretty decent weight savings.

I just picked up the kit Saturday. My IC arrived Friday (Thanks Jack Cotton!) :applaus: so now I can get the car fired up again and to the guy that is doing it. A friend from work is doing it. Cost will be about $600.00 total bar/labor. :arco:
This is my installer: http://www.patsperformanceconverters.com/pic/img/brian1.jpg
