Hey all...Just keepin the forum alive...anything new with anybody? Time slips, mods, anything? it's been a fast summer for me. Got some overtime in at work, so I can finally afford my heads...But as far as that, my poor motor still sits under a blanket in the corner of the garage....waiting.

OK how about this? How do you "guy's" run more than 13 Psi on pump gas?I put 93 octane in "or so it said" and I get severe knock ping, ping, ping, clatter, clatter, when I bump it up to 14 psi.I don't really want to have to fill-up on 110 octane all the time. What is approx. the most boost you guy's have found you can run on pump gas?My car is slow,15.4@86.5 1/4 mile. But I see alot of guys talk how their HOT AIR ran 98 MPH in the 1/4.I don't think my car can pick up the extra 12 mph without race gas.I can only "tune" with generic OTC 2000 scan tool which don't tell you much.Just the basics.TPS,IAC,MAF,Coolant,BLM,INT,LV8,knock(yes/no),AND because I am NEW to tuning I can only verify if the numbers are all in the "magic number" range.Which they are!Does 13 psi sound right on pump gas?

I run 14-15#'s boost on just 93.Usually 18 degrees on chip timing.
More boost than that I turn the alky injection on.
If your still running the stock chip that can hurt you, higher timing.
Knock will kill your performance.Heat and humidity will kill your performance.
You can mix some race gas in or xylene to raise the octane.
Info on that @ gnttype.org.

Yeah, thats about right. My dad can run 14 lbs with 93. anything after that causes knock. Slow85 is rite, there are many variables as to how much boost you can run with 93, timing, weather, the quality of the gas. If you are adament about running higher boost pressures with 93, then I would talk to a good chip burner.......good luck to ya!

I have set the fuel to 40-41 pounds line off.I ran a better time with the fuel here at 40-41 than when it was 38-39.My time dropped from 15.8 to 15.4 just by increasing FP.I went up a little more and time went back down to 15.6.So I figured my stock configuration is pretty much done.Any more boost= severe knock.Any more fuel is slower also.I don't really like the idea of having to ADD rocket fuel to get more.To me its along the lines of nitrous.(sort of).Kind of like when I go to the track and there are all these people with their hoods open, car not running,BIG bag of ice on top of engine, pushing the car the whole way up to the staging lanes just to get a faster time.I'm like"OK, like you do that when your out on the town and someone wants to race"ITS FAKE!I want to be real and pump gas is real.I want to be fast cause the car is fast,NOT because I have to do this, and this, and this to be faster.(I am talking about racegas, nitrous, slick tires, things NOT STOCK)(Adj. FPR,better exhaust, bigger DP,Bigger Fuel pump,Hot wire are ALL OK to me)I was hopeing for a 14.0 timeslip pretty much stock.I don't think my car can get there without racegas and higher boost. If it is possible I would LOVE to know how.Does what I am trying to say make sense?Things you can bolt on and be better are OK,cause it will always run like that.BUT when you MUST put slicks on at the track, racegas and the like, are to me just BS to get a quick BANG for 10-12 seconds but not very practical for street cruising.I am happy with my car as-is but thought it might have a little more in it.Thanks everyone for the help.Mike

You dont need nitrous to crank up the boost. You only need a little c16, or if you wanna get High Tech....Alky injection. I am going with the SMC alky Injection unit for my car. I am having it custom mounted in front near the airbox location (K&N Now Lives there)...So...I am also getting a Jug for Racegas that I can add when I get to the track, so I am not running the high octane all the time. I always use 93+ to begin with, but at the track, I have been told to crank up the boost, crank up the octane! As for the slicks and all, not necessary for a 14.0...What is tho, is a better fuel pump, the adj fpr, a chip, a K&N filter, a 160 stat, the high octane, and boost it at around 16-17. That should put you in there, and with the higher octane, hopefully your knock will subside. You ont need a tank of the 116, just a few gallons, on top of maybe 5 gallons of 93. Good luck!

Mine ran right on the raged edge. 19-20 pounds boost, 18 in 3rd and 4th. I could only run 93 from one station in town. and had to add 2 bottles octane booster. However It doent matter anymore, because since Amaco became BP my car will knock on there gas. I am currently afraid to gas on it hard for fear of problems. Guess Im going to have to look into an alky kit, because I can't (won't) lower the boost. :zahn:

I still have my '84 GN; the memorable moonroof car. :arco:

I haven't had a chance to repair the leaking rear seal on the motor, or what looks to be a cracked '87 intake.

Due to an impending divorce, my supporting; a lawyer, a soon to be ex spouse with spousal support, a girl friend - who because of the current job market seemingly can't find employment... I should be happy that there is a bright lining in the dark clouds of life.

Best so far... 14.22 at 102 mph a 2.78 60 foot on 235/60/15 street radials in Pueblo, Colorado's thin air. Oh... beat a WS6 6 speed TA on that run too.

WOW!Your car must pull like a RAPED APE to pull off a 14.22 with a 2.78 60 ft.INCREDIBLE!!!! :applaus: :anbet:

My new mph to date is 116 at about 22.5 pounds of boost and I wasn't hooking(I was having issues with trying to build boost on the line) at all and laid down a couple 11 second passes on Friday... I will get back into the swing and hopefully have a new personal best to report by the end of October

See,I thought it was great 'cause my car gets 2.2 60ft all the time and can only pull a 15.4.That tells me his car has to have incredible pull compared to mine to get to the 60 ft 1/2 sec after mine and then beat me by 15 mph at the 1/4.And mine don't pull like a raped ape, more like a girl'ish gorilla!LOL Hey Turbo6x2,I talked to the guys over at Quad Air yesterday,Man I sure wish I would have been at Norwalk Sunday.Would have loved to watch you GOOOOOO!I went right by there Sat.,Knew it was happening Sun.But couldn't make it!Great job! They tell me your car LOOKS Awesome!

Didn't run the time slip I wanted, have to do better 60's then the crap I was doing, but the car mph up the butt.... It was all good. ( I made it to the final 5 not to shabby for my first race this season) Yeah I finally met John after speaking with him for years. He didn't know but I painted that car too. It's one of my other hobbies. Would have been nice to met another hot air enthusiast. Lee Thompson parked next to us even...

You know?Since I finally put another Hot Air back together,I have only seen 1 other than mine out at an event and it was there for the "sit'in pretty" car show. Not there to race.I don't think I saw any rubber on his fender flaps or exhaust! Don't know about you but that's how I under coat mine. :arco:

Am I to assume this is sarcasm?

Look up Pueblo, Colorado in altitude... it is no where near sea level. The temperature on the track that day exceeded 90 degrees. Traction wasn't there... period. I let out of first and second gear to obtain traction on that run. No drag radials were used. (The GN has a nice set of brand new Nitto's on it now)

The turbo on the car was a stocker... an '87 stock turbo.

At sea level the car would have surely reduced that ET by 7 tenths. (Altitude index)

Winter is almost here.. the old beast will remain parked in a garage. I'm sure it will get a tad bit rarer this winter as some of you wrap yours around telephone poles, parked cars, black iced corners, or slammed by blind grandma's driving 12 passenger vans. Keep it safe out there... God bless ya. :arco:

I went 13.18@101.8 on a 70º day at 800 feet, so at 102mph with good air and traction that should be low 13's easy.

Here's something NEW!I just ran my Best to date.9/28/04..... 2.0/60 ft.
9.2 1/8th @ 73 mph. 14.5 1/4 @93.0 mph. That is with NO upgraded fuel pump/hotwire kit.NO knock gauge or scan tool hooked up.My fuel pressure was 39 static.14 pounds of boost.2 gal 94 octane,2 1/2 gal 110 octane fuel.I upped the boost to 15 psi but after spinning tire, let off to catch up,punch it again and fry tire again I gave up for the night.I have only been to the track 5 times in my life with this car and every time I have bettered my last best run starting from a first best of 17.2 @ 83 mph. This latest attempt got me .9 sec gain from my last best of 15.4 @ 86 mph.I am starting to NOW see these cars for what potential lies sleeping.I WILL have a FAST HOT AIR! I am now knocking on 13's doorstep.Maybe even before winter sets.!Thanks to Everyone who has helped me! :elefant:

:racer: My entire front end was re-done last winter.Everything was sand blasted, powder coated, poly bushings, nothing was left undone. This winter it's on to the rear.I just sent out my empty rear end housing. It's getting sand blasted, powder coated,New rubber bushings for the upper control arms,I am getting the new backing plates powder coated "Penny vein".Kinda looks like a bright bronze with gloss black "lightning bolts" running through it.I am buying aftermarket Boxed lowers with poly bushings and for the Guts I think I am going with the Eaton posi unit to compliment the 373 gears.Everyone around me except my wife thinks I am nuts for fixing up the car as rusted out as it is!I am hopeing for a LOW 13 sec. pass this spring.Motor is stock except for adj.FPR.I ran a best of 14.3 @ 98 Mph. with 17 pounds and 110 octane.
