I'm going to be pulling my tranny this winter to have it rebuilt(it's starting to slip a little). I'm thinking of having Vince Janis do the rebuild because of his reputation and he is local. I emailed him to get an idea of how much the cost would be and he replied that a Standard Race Tranny rebuild cost around a grand. I will give Vince a call and get the specifics before I take it to him, but I would also like to here from you guys on what a Standard Race Tranny should consist of. Does it mean that he will use stronger parts in the areas where needed? What should I expect to get for my $1000 ?
Thanks
James

Standard can mean anything. We all have different opinions on what a standard performance rebuild consist of. I would recomend that you ask for a detailed list of what is included in the "Standard Performance rebuild" and compare value based on that list with other builders.

Thanks for the replies David and Lonnie.
Lonnie, what would you charge to do my tranny? the car is a TTA with the 2004R(TAF) and is mostly street driven but does see the dragstrip occasionally and has the potential to run mid/low 11's. What kind of rebuild would you recommend for my set up?
Thanks
James

Hey Lonnie...You hooked up a friend of mine with a sweet tranny, Casey Slider...He told me if I needed any Tranny work to talk to you.
Well guess what, mines starting to slip but I live in Delaware right now...I was going to go to someone in Jersey like Dynotech or something, but being as I drove his car and LOVE the way that thing shifts I was curious as to if you do any long distance work...Like shipping it or something, although I'm sure it would cost a bundle.
How long does it take to do a good tranny build?? Maybe I could stop on my way back to Indiana sometime, drop it off and pick it up on my way home??
Either way sorry to highjack the thread, but just so you know James, Lonnie builds one of the best feeling tranny's I've ever drivin.

You live in DE. DelTrans is in Delaware. One of the best in the Country for 200's and they are just a few miles away. They did mine and several other known Buick people higher up on the food-chain than me. Within punching distance too

While it is true I do live in DE I only know a little bit about DelTrans...My only thing is I have driven one Lonnies Trannies, and it felt great which makes we want one of his trannies.

No doubt! I am sure Lonnie builds a good one from what I hear. Are you a member of the MAGNA club? Bill Anderson, BWeavy, Banning, etc...? If not you can join up with us at one of the meets and see what you think of a DelTrans unit. It wouldn't cost you for shipping and they are fairly close to you in case you should need adjustment or anything related to it. Ask for Dave if you are interested: http://www.deltransinc.com/

Yeah I just joined MAGNA within the last month or so...I haven't made it to any of the meetings yet...I would like to feeling the end product before buying.
