I am currently going to have some money available to me and I want to upgrade my turbo and components. My current setup is a brand new engine with speed pro 9.0:1 forged pistons, eagle forged crank, comp cams cam 212-212, TE-51, 3000 stall and 42.5 injectors I also have all the other stuff like fuel pump and exhaust but I dont want to get into that. I was looking at getting a TE-45a with 72 # injectors and a 3500 stall, how does that sound and will it cost just over 2000 dollars? Im leaning towards getting it from aggressive auto because they have the package deal with the turbo and injectors with chip. What do you think would be the wisest choice a TE-45a or a 70GTQ

I also have reconditioned stock rods ARP bolts and studs throughout the motor, and steels caps and such. Do you think my rods will be a weak link?

The 45a is a great turbo. If you have enough stall, like around 3800, get the 70Q. That will make some killer HP and you will not have to run ultra high boost to make good HP.

Any of those turbos woud work well but I wouldn't run a chip. Get a Max-Effort and be done!

How much for them? I think if I get them from you I will buy 2 chips from Eric. Also will a 3800 stall be shit on the street and ruin my tranny? I dont have the money for Max-Effort so thats out of the question right now. If I do decide to go with the 70GTQ will the 72's be sufficient also will I need ported heads for full potential?
Either way you will be getting a buzz next month Taffy with my choice :thrashi:
One more question, do you fellas recommend a lock up or non lock up stall?
And which stall should I get that has been proven to work well the turbo.

I always recommend lockup converters if your car is able to handle it.
The 3800 with the 70Q will be killer on the street. The 9x11 converter has been proven to be tight when not in the boost, and nice and loose when you hammer it. We have a few customers with 3500 stall 9x11 converters that feel close to stock when driving around town.
You will be doing yourself a favor by getting the best/largest tranny oil cooler with the converter.
The higher stall should not ruin your tranny.
The 70Q will outflow the 72 lbm/hr injectors. The 72s, although, are good for nearly 800 horsepower. Most people will not be making that kind of power.
Ported heads will only help to make more power with a larger turbo. Many people have run the 45a on bone stock engine, and ran some killer times.

Thanks for all that info Taffy clears alot of things up. Im still a little torn on the two turbos though :albert: I guess Im a little too concerned that the 70GTQ will be too much turbo for me at this point. But I also am hearing good stuff about the GTQ technology. I have a month to think it over though :arco:

If that turbo is still available on September 23 Intercooler I will take it. Also what stall do you recommend for it 3500? I am ging to get a Pats so could you order it for me and get the discount? Also will that turbo come with a actuator?
What turbo are you going with now that you sold that one?

I have a Pat's 10 3500 and it works real well with it. Didn't/doesn't come with an actuator but one can be purchased from Limit or yours could be modified to work on it. I have one person in NJ that is supposed to come out today to look at it and one in Florida that are interested but it may still be here the 23rd if nothing comes of it. I have to iron out what turbo with John Craig for my next one.

Would a 3500 Pats work good with the 70GTQ?

Probably not. I think they call for 3800 for that. With my brake I can hit 4k plus but I haven't launched it that hard yet. I will let you know.

I have a 9 1/2 ArtCarr 3,400 stall.Drives like stock in town.I think it is a little too much for a TE-60 with no cam or headwork though. At the track instant boost but it redlines all the way down track.Im trying to figure out a new combo 2.Let me know how everything work's.

If you have above 3500 stall and you want to get stupid with the power, the 70 is for you. It will make 800HP. That is enough to get into the low 10s. That would rule the streets with enough (3800+) stall and enough traction!
