Got in the car to come home today after an interview at CSULB. Turned onto the major street, car shifted in 2nd pretty firm (like always). But half way into 2nd the car jerked a few times (like it was shifting but really wasn't). This lasted for about 3 signals (until the tranny got hot i guess) then cleared right up to normal...Anyone got any ideas??? Thanks!

Low tranny fluid? Or maybe an drivabilty issue?

I check the fluid regularly. Although a little darker than normal it doesnt smell burnt or any of that sort. The car only acted like this that day (monday) and has not done it since. Im happy its acting normal but I still know that its not right and something needs to be replaced somewhere, if not just rebuilding the whole tranny.

Keep driving it until it does it again.

Did it again today. :( This time it did it in both 1st and 2nd gear. Car gerks around (wouldnt call it slipping) just feels like its shifting but never does (and jerks way before it needs to shift) But once the tranny warmed up to operating temp it cleared right up, shifts were normal and firm. This has got me stumped. :albert:

If it isn't your TCC causing early lock-ups then it may be close to rebuild time. Sounds like something may be hanging in the valve body.

Well, I went to a well respected tranny shop today. The guy said its hard to tell without actually feeling what it is doing. (understandable) But of course with my luck it was running perfect today. He gave me a quote of about $60 bucks for TCC and another $50 or so for labor. Plus the cost of service (might as well have it serviced since the pan is dropped). So I'll probably end up doing this and just hope it solves it for now since money isn't easy to come by with school and all.
What do you guys think? With 120,000 daily driven street and freeway miles on the car, is it worth trying the TCC or just having the whole thing rebuilt, dollar for dollar???
Thanks again,
Chuck

Do the TCC, and service, for sure. I would even consider having the guy go through the valve body to clean and inspect. Maybe even have him install a shift kit since he is in there. Caution: the shift kit may aggravate the condition, but hopefully he will have already fixed the problem in the valve body.

to test for a faulty TCC solenoid, you might want to try disconnecting the electrical connector on the side of the transmission. If the problem goes away, you'll know the problem is in the TCC
