The "LT1" springs is a confusing monicker....

The ones that people usually use are the GM springs (that happened to be used on the LT-1 Corvette in 1970) that were listed in the Buick PowerSource manual for upgraded cams.

The part number 3927142 for these can be found at :

http://www.gnttype.org/numbers/8687pn.html

Further down the page are the aftermarket springs (Comp Cams and Fed. Mogul), some with a little less seat pressure that work very well:

OD(in.)Closed#Open#Rate(#/in.)Part number1.2080200267VS6771.2385230295VS16151.2641052 77350VS739R1.2480200267CC 9791.2391229307CC 9801.25105295423CC 981

{EDIT} Formatting went to hell when I pasted it, but you'll see it down a bit further under Aftermarket parts.

cc980's are very popular. if you're breaking in a cam, I'd use weak springs to do it.

If you are using a stock cam, then just use the CC980 springs. Valve seals are still available directly from GM and most parts places like NAPA.

If your retainers aren't bent or worn, you can reuse them, but new ones aren't that expensive.

Hey Ken. A quick question…my 1987 motor has 93k miles stock heads, intake, cam etc. I heard 80# springs were the best for a stock motor (do not have to worry about wiping a cam). On http://www.gnttype.org/numbers/8687pn.html which 80# spring is the best to purchase.
