How fast can you go with a PTE88 in 1/8 mile? I am looking to build my car to run 1/8 mile class need to get in the 5.50 range with true 10" tire. Can this be done with an 88? Any suggestions?

Lonnie, Richie Kibler runs 5 teens with an 88 on 10.5W's. His car is backhalved & has basically the same combo as most all the other SG2 TR's. Good luck this coming season whichever way you decide to go.

Mike, Richie runs his car on true 28 X 10.5 tires (in the class he runs you can't run W tires) and he did run 5.19 @140mph in the 1/8th, but I heard at the GN/GS, Sy/Ty, TTA race he ran 5.08 @142mph in the 1/8th and I'd bet he is still using the 88 turbo (he could be using the 91mm but he was having problems with it)..... Another thing to keep in mind is Richie's car weighs 3200lbs so I don't know how heavy you have to weigh but I'm also pretty sure Dave Fiscus has run 5.60's-5.50's in the 1/8th and his car is 3400lbs (he runs the 88).....

Dave is local and I am good friends with Dave. He has been 5.60 but runs 5.80s just about everytime out like clockwork. When I talked to Richie months ago I thought he was running one of those big thumper style exhaust housings on his 88. Maybe not I dont remember. My car is 3450 and I also have to run stock style suspension. Dave also runs this same class I am looking at running. A little about my motor. Its an on center 278 stage 2 with TA 2.02/1.60 heads and BGC intake. Tranny will more than likely be a PG maybe 400 but I got to make a pass with the 2004R just to see  I already own the 4 bolt 88 just wondering if I might need more turbo right out of the gate. Wonder if anyone has geared these cars for 1/8 mile and if it helped?

Lonnie, yeah I think your right Richie does have a thumper style 88 turbo.... I personally think the 4-bolt 88 you have should get you 5.50's but you might have to push it a bit to get there....

Good luck and keep us updated on your progress!

I will keep you updated. I was hoping to get a little more input. Guess when you get up to the 88 turbo stuff there are not as many guys to help out with advice. I was kinda hoping Bill would share some input. Maybe later he will have some time. This is uncharted waters for me.

Yeah hopefully Bill or somebody else that has experience running that turbo can share input.....

FWIW, I'm pretty sure Terry Houston had run 5.40's-5.50's with a 4-bolt 88 turbo and I know that Mel Reed's GN which has an 88 and had run a 5.50 pass in the 1/8th from seeing it on White Racing's website......

8.625 @ 157.72 MPH
1.274 60'
3.599 330'
5.531 1/8 Mile
127.53 1/8 MPH
7.203 1000'

I don't think you'll have a problem making the power to run 5.50's it will just be a matter of getting the 60' where it needs to be (very low 1.3's to high 1.2's depending on your MPH in the 1/8th)....

BTW and again FWIW, I'd bet that Cal as well as Tony Gomes have both been 5.50's in the 1/8th and both of them run the 88....

PTE-88 turbo. I have run it for the last 4 years. I ran 5.20's and 30's all year on 28X10.5-15 M/T tires. THEY WERE NOT W'S tires. The car would run anywhere from 135- 140.mph just how much hook you could get down track.I could spin the tires anytime I wanted to. And you will have to have at least 1.32 60ft times to get that. I only launch the car with 13lbs of boost @ 4800rpm and leave with the ramp on the controller on 5.
The gear in the rear end is a pro 3:60 and I run a PG trans.

with the new igntion system I think the car will run teens- low 20's all the time now. I set the record in the class at the last race with a 5.19 @140.

that was with bigger tires is why it ran alittle faster. I had the 91 on but had turned the boost down to 22lbs. I wasn't sure what the thing was going to do. It was hitting the tires way to hard and could not control it out the gate. It will run faster for sure with some bite out of it.

Yeah I was going to ask if that was with bigger tires cause if I had to guess I'd say those are 31 X 10.5W's from looking at that pic.... Looks like some high 4 second passes are in your near future :applaus:

You are da man on 10.5's! :anbet:

Steve,

You and I were right about the tires.

Richie,

Let me know more about the 91 when you get a chance I may trade up.
Also would you like me to update the little web page I did for you???

Richie,if you don't mind me asking....What compression are you running with that 88 and what stall in the PG trans?

It is running 9.25-1 comp. but soon to be a little lower. The stall is a trick ? It stall's lower on the v6 than if you put it on a v8 but the flash is about 6800-7000 is what it looks like on the data log. And that is to loose on the big end I'm only geting a 4-500 rpm drop on high gear shift so I'm leaving alot of mph out there. But it is getting tighten up now and we will see what it does, I would like to get it to drop about 1000rpm's

John yes you can updated it if you would like and yes the 31w's drop the car about a .06 at the 60ft and a .10 in the 1/8. But it was not uncommon for the car to be leaving black marks thru the finish line with the 28's. I know that it would run faster with a bigger tire, but that is what I had to run in the class and I dont think there is anyone out there can run the numbers with the same tire and weight. I will write down everything about the set up that I have because the car WORKS on the 28's. Now the class is moving to 29.5x10.5 non W so back to work.

Not sure if you all have heard of him but a very good friend of mine named Brian Burnside goes mid-5's at about 127 in the 1/8 with an 88 and stock susp. 10.5 tire, 3550# 86 t-type.

I know Brian. How is his new Back Halved Turbo SBC GN coming along?
Did you guys put the stock suspension car back together?
Email me if you get a chance! :pedro:
