I blew up the Pioneer replacement 4x10's (well one of them) after only a year. I have an amp and 10" subwoofer for bass, so I dont need the rear speakers to make much bass. I just want something clear and that wont blow up. Another set of 4x10's would be fine. I dont know how some of you guys get 6x9's in there.
What do you audio studs use?

get any 4X10s you want...trust YOUR ears.
Make sure to limit the bass they get since you have a sub to 150hz and up @ 6db minimum with a bass blocker - electronic w/ a steeper slope you can go lower if needed. If you don't have an electronic X-over on them, add a bass blocker.
Speakers don't die, they are murdered. Getting a different/better/higher wattage speaker will not keep them from blowing up, only the operator will.

I have had the Pioneer 4 x 10 and they have held up for 3 years. but i do have a crossover that limits their bass input. I love them. But i want to match them to the Blaupunkts i have in the door and dash. So if you buy me some Blau's i will give you these. :thrashi:

You may need to make a spacer to make these work, not sure. http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-yIXv2eVzgNc/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=11&g=103200&I=008101GMS&o=m&a=1&cc=01&avf=Y
Not sure if your up to cutting your rear deck or not. Saw a guy put 4 component 6.5s in a regal rear deck, made a cover with headliner material I think..... looked stock.

Rob you used the crutchfield adapters? Did they fit right in or did they have to be modified?

Actually, I think I got them at Wal-Mart a long time ago.
You can also get them at Circuit City. But you have to ask in
their installation dept. They sell them, but they don't put them
out on the floor.

I used a set of the adapters also and added a set of the sony x-plod 3-way 6X9's and noticed a vast difference over the pioneer 4X10's I had in there before. I got my adapters at a local stereo shop for $15. I am also running a single 10" until I get my new box for my Phoenix Gold Tantrum 12" DVC. I am also upgrading my amp from some cheesy 300watt that a friend let me use to an Alpine V-12 M-300.
As for install on the adapters and speakers? I left the grills on the 6X9's due to the speaker rubbing the adapter without them. Other than that, it does take a little work but not too hard to do.

I used the Metra adapters and got some coaxial MBquarts. Very nice sound and fit no problem with the bars.

When I had my big sub box in my trunk, (for sale HERE (http://www.t6p.com/showthread.php?t=533)), I used Pioneer 6x9 3-way thru a cheap Jensen Crossover (which I have for sale, not listed), and they sounded great. I piped the mids and highs into the 6x9's, and various other speakers I had in the car.
I have used the 6x9 adapters in all my Regals - HERE'S (http://www.t6p.com/showthread.php?t=727) a thread about it.. Cheaper @ PartsExpress.com (http://partsexpress.com)

If you want to stick with 4X10's, do a sesarch for Pyle 4X10, several on-line stores carry them. They are very cheap, but perform quite well especially if you are not looking for much bass. They have a larger magnent and higher watt rating than some Pioneer, slightly less range, but not really in the range audible to the human ear.
I have them in my 442 with a separate 60 Watt amp, very clear and crisp using passive crossover.
I'd save the money, and just buy a good set of component speakers for the front. Having speakers (mids/highs) in the rear of a regal doesn't really seem to help out in the sound department. Especially when you have subs in the trunk. A sub or 2 in the trunk w/ a good set of front speakers would probably be best.

I used to use 6x9-4x10 adapters, but I blow 6x9's at an alarming rate, so I don't even bother with them now.

just some fyi, the infinity reference 3way 6x9's are too big to fit and interfere with the trunk bar thingies. polk 3way 6x9's do fit however and sound nice.

I had some Pioneer 6x9's but I blew them twice, then I switched to Sony X-plod and blew them too. I just stick with door speakers now...

How much do the Polks go for? I want to stay around $125 if possible. I will be ordering soon from Crutchfied. Are you using the Crutchfield adapters BTW?

dont know price. check crutchfield's site. they were in the car when i bought it. they use the same blue plastic adapters that i bought at circuitcity for the monte ss and the infinity's. i ended up reusing the homemade adapters that were already in the ss to make the infinity's work. wouldnt fit using the blue plastic. as long as the dimensions are smaller than the infinity ref. speakers, the adapters should do just fine if you're looking for a bolt-in w/ no fabrication.
