My steering column has been getting looser and looser at the part where it tilts. Is there a bushing in there I can replace to fix this?

Right now there is about 1/4" that I can move the steering wheel up/down/left/right.

There are three inverted torx bolts that loosen up in the column. You are going to have to pull the wheel, turn sig. assy etc. in order to access it. Two of the three bolts can be accessed easily - one cannot. Sounds a bit half assed, but tighten the snot out of the two you can get at (blue loctite too) will solve the problem. :zahn:

I had that problem early last spring. My wheel got really loose. I had a shop do it that a friend & club member recommended. They removed everything, used Loctite and snugged the bolts up really well. Havent had any problems yet.

We attempted to do it ourselves, but for two people who had never taken the column apart, it was a nightmare. Couldnt even get the thing back together right, as I didnt have any high-beams on the way home. :D The shop took care of everything though.

My problem now is the steering feels like the gearbox itself or something is getting worn out. If I wasnt still driving it every day, I would do a box swap.

I have some pics that I took a few months ago. That was the second time that my column came loose. The lock plate removal tool makes the job pretty easy. I'll post them if I can find them. :)

There's also an article on GNTtype here (http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/suspension/t_steering.html) . HTH.

welcome to the world of GM tilt columns, as said before, tighten the three torx screws, and stop leaning on the wheel when you get in!

Thanks everybody for all the help. I'll have to dig into the column this weekend.
