If money were no object, which turbo would you get, to meet a goal of a 10 second timeslip......

I'm looking into a CPT-65 BB w/ an 82 housing, from Jack........what do you guys think.

Also, those new GT turbos are lookin nice as well.

I have a John Craig TE-45a which we are hoping to get mid/low 10's out of when the car is done. If I had a choice I'd go with the new gt-67 but I got a deal on the 45a. If money is no object I would definetly suggest the GT series.

The TE 45 is a great and proven 10 sec turbo. I went mid 10s with mine.Could have gone low 10s with it.

I love mine so far but my combo isn't complete so no times yet. Not to high jack the thread but what sort of combo were you running Louie to get low 10's?

This is if you could get any turbo to get you to somewhere + or - mid 10's.......and keep good streetability.

I'm just trying to get some opinions.

I did it with the same combo listed in my sig. Everything was the same but for the turbo. The night i went the 10.50s i could have gone 10.40s or even 30s if i had used all gears.I was having shifter problems and going from 1st to 3rd.Oh BTW it ran that off the foot brake.

What stall converter?

A double ball bearing Innovative is a nice turbo. :deal:

Depends on how far into the 10's you want to go, but all the recommendations so far will do the job. I'm VERY happy with my PT67.

I understand that all of the aforementioned turbos would do the job. I'm just trying to see what most (with real world experience) are leaning towards these days.

Also, due to the fact that there are not a great many individuals running BB turbos, or even the new GT series, I was somewhat curious as to how they were working for those who do run them.

Right now, I'm only going with approx. 3200 stall (9x11). Thus, I was leaning towards the BB CPT-65 w/ the .82 housing.

If money wasnt an issue, I'd use a GTQ71. I've used a couple of these on some cars local and they are badass. I have one car with the same converter you have that's spooling one without too much trouble, although 3200 is on the low limit, 3500 would be better.

I have a TE 45a and have to sort other problems first.Louie..what stall did you use and was it a lock up or not.I have one tranny with a Prec 5 disk 3200 stall L U and just bought another tranny with a 3500 non lock up stall
Bat brake and the billet internals.
Thanks

3500 stall should work real good. I ran the 45 with a 3600 stall 911 and it spooled like a sob on the brake. I later ran it with a 3300-3400 converter. Spooled nice on the street but not on the brake.

I'm running a TE64-1 and looking for lower 10's next year when I switch to 3.42's and a lockup converter

My GN is (WAS) a high 10 car and the TE-60 did just fine for what I wanted to do. This was over 8 years ago also.

GT67 in the .63 would get you there with great street spool (from those using it so far). If you could get a GT70 in a ball bearing with a .63, that would be a bad ass 10 second strip/street turbo.

Did you have a .63 housing? Everyone is telling me to run a 3800 l/u with the PTE .63 housing. Guy I bought the turbo from said a 3400 wouldn't spool it on his car that well.

Yes it had a .63 housing. With the FAST I got the spool up as good as it gets even with the low stall.Like I said the 3400 was a dog on the transbrake, but ok on the street. The 9/11 was a quick spooler, and awesome on the transbrake. So as you see the higher stall converter is the way to go.

has anyone ever gotten a 51 into the tens!(TTA) Numbers seem to support the theory. Just number crunching as of late

I don't have a TTA, but thought I'd chime in anyway...

I had a 51 on the T-Type before the PT67. The fastest I went was 11.34@119mph. I think I could have gone a little faster... maybe into the 20's, but not into the 10's. I haven't heard of anyone running 10's in a full weight TR with this turbo (like PTE first advertised... "high 10 sec turbo").

Hope that helps.

Well, not with a 51 but with a 52. I can think of at least two others who have done it with this turbo as well. It's capable of 10.70-10.80's if I could get the launch nailed.

I am pretty sure a TE-54 would get you there in a full weight car without a problem.

I choose the "99" or the "101" or ...

OOPS is this for a 231 stock block, iron headed, street driven GN/T?

I like the old T-63E ~~ 10.7s @ 3600#, 3500 stall OR the 67 or 50 or ...

BUT I feel that a 70 or bigger requires too much compensation with stall to make work effectively and the BBT is not worth the investment on HP return.

Thats my story and I ....

Have a nice day.
