Only way I've ever been able to totally make them go away is a high speed buff.
A good application of a great protectant (wax) will keep them from reoccuring. Not all waxes are good protectants

If they aren't REALLY bad you might want to try a clay bar...Worth a try anyway, worked on my Mitsu.

I wouldn't use a buffer for water spots. But a cleaner by hand.
Then Wax. Unless you know how to use a bufffer, you can burn the paint.
Seen that. Take your time

What about water spots on glass? I've used a good glass cleaner and buffed the glass with meguires cleaner and they are still there. Anything tougher?? :fragez:

The water spots on my glass p'd me off for a year. I thought I wound never get them out. Go to walmart and buy some "bar keepers friend". It's right next to Comet. (you know, the stuff for your tub). Get a new regular sponge too. Add a little elbow grease and your windows will be clear! Tried and tested. Works 100%.

Thats a good tip for the windows. somebody told me about it acouple weeks ago but I didnt know where to buy.
As for the water spots on paint clay bar works for me. it takes some time but was a miracle bar for me. I get them from time to time if the sprinkler head get kicked around.

I have still got the water spots. They are better but not gone.
Use some elbow grease. Than again, maybe your waterspots are from really bad water.
Oops, are you talking about waterspots on the glass or the paint? I'm talking about the glass.

From my understanding of HS chemistry water spots are caused by calcium, sodium and potasium deposits. A little trick I have used on glass is a little agressive rubbing with vinegar. I was going to try this on the paint but was worried about discoloring so on the spots I couldn't buff out easily I ended up very carefully wet sanding with 1500-2000 grit detailing blocks. These are the little sanding blocks that Meguires and 3M make. This way you dont end up buffing through the top coat which is really thin if it is factory paint.

If it's a bit more difficult you can try attaching a pad to an air tool then place the steel wool on it to buff the glass to an almost new finish. It worked more then once. You would need to turn the air compressor down to have it spin slower but it works.

For water spots on the paint, I have always had good luck just using a random orbital and a nice glaze. Meguiars would work. You want to go slow to get them to rub out. A random orbital won't burn the paint unless you hold it in one spot a really long time. You want one that is slower and I would try using a terry or diaper bonnet to get them off. If you use a little water on the applicator to apply that helps too. Clay bar should work this removes all the impurities from the paint to show the best surface possible. If you get them off with the glaze then I would recommend a good wax to help seal the paint against this in the future. Just what I've learned in the past few seasons.

To prevent these spots I have used the Mr Clean Auto dry with great results on my 03 Infra Red Escalade. The built in filter removes calcium and other minerals which cause the spots and you don't have to dry your car afterwards.

someone told me that brasso or any good brass cleaner will get out water spots and glass and they were right. Took 2 seconds and gone!

Most of those brass cleaners are fine abrasive so why not use one made for paint like a meguiars #83 cleaner Or a Fine cut cleaner from the mirror glaze line.
THey have a pretty good online forum for detailing discussion and I found this on water spots. First identify the type of waterspot. One is just a deposit and will come off with a clay bar. The other is an etching of the paint/clearcoat and will require a cleaner to remove.

Not strange at all, I use it too for that specific purpose. Also, steel wool works great on chrome! I've always buffed out water spots.
