I havent been keeping up with the 2004R "world" since I sold my TR, but I am curious.

What is the current state of affairs, how fast can one go on a built tranny and still maintain reliability and driveability? Is low 10's too much to expect out of a daily driven 2004R and still not worry about driving it to the track 2 hours away, busting off a low 10, and driving home?

At what point, even with a built tranny, do we have to "wonder" if the tranny is going to make it through the day at the track?

Who are the current kings of building up the 2004R?

I hear that Lonnie Diers at Extreme Automatics can make a 200-4R live in a 9 sec. car.

A trans like that can be built to withstand the punishment.
But be ready to spend BIG COIN on it.
It will need some pretty pricey upgrade to hold up to that power.

Not sure what you call alot
But call one of the tranny vendors you see on the billboard up there, Just make sure you are sitting down whne it come to the price
My current transmission costs about $6k to replace with a new unit, so I'm used to spending coin on quality parts. I dont like spending big coin on parts you cant rely on tho ;)

the 2004r can be built to run in the 9.90 /9.70 zone with reliability .this is due to new parts designs that superceed the factory designs, and heat treated designs previously released through the aftermarket.the only pieces needed to do this is an input shaft and forward drum made out of e4340 steel which we manufacture as well as a properly calibrated valve body,200 3 speed servo ,wide band and good clutches.rollerizing internal components will further reduce horsepower loss created and consumed during normal internal component rotation.at this level of power we reccomend using a 2.40 /1.40 planetary gear set to take rotating speed out of the transmission reducing parts failures and demands on friction materials as well as improving traction.you may view a stage 2 build up on our website,www.ckperformance.com

I would go with Chris if you want one built, He is by FAR the best in the country for buidling a 2004r. and is not as overly priced as some other vendors are

If you wanna stay somewhat local, I'd check out Len Freeman of Performance Transmissions here in Vegas. I've been running 10's for 3 years on my 200 built by Len. http://www.ptlv.com/

dan-thats always a hard one to anwser. it all depends on how its used. a trans that gets transbraked and wot every week is never going to last as long as the one that is just hammered from a light once in a while. its all what you do with it. len

live fast die young.thats all i can say .usually a year or two before itll need something in the friction material department .we have run a 3600 lb hurst olds with a 434 sbc,a fogger and a plate into the 9.40 zone with success all year.the only thing was it twisted up output shafts until we sent them to chicago for a cryogenic treatment.this cured the problem .jimmys transmission is also another reputable shop and uses our billet drums and shafts in his high output applications.2004rs are very funny though.i just finished going thru 3 in 2 years with one customer running a 4.1 turbo with a two stage nitrous system.he now is running our aod overdrive with ultra bell and says hed never go back to a 2004r again after feeling the aod and its responsiveness behind his motor.

I have had good luck with the 2004R in 9 sec cars. A properly built 200 should go about 2 seasons before a freshen up. You never really know depends on how much street driving, transbreak launches etc. I have a couple 200s running 9.50s and several in the 9.90-9.70 range.

That's OK Dan, by the time you get it finished, there will be better parts that will withstand 8 sec street driven cars! :add_wegbr
