AS GENERAL MOTORS WORKS TO further broaden the appeal of its militaristically rugged Hummer brand, a key future product will likely be a smaller, more affordable vehicle that retains Hummer’s in-your-face styling and off-road capability. Clues to that future model go on display when GM unveils the H3T concept at the Los Angeles auto show later this month. Based on GM’s new Colorado/Canyon midsize truck platform, H3T is designed to be a youth-oriented luxury expression of a Hummer, with equal capabilities off-road, on city streets and on the open highway.

“Not all Hummers have to be big, not all Hummers have to be SUVs, and Hummers can be fuel-efficient,” says H3T and Hummer design director Clay Dean.

The regular-cab two-seater features a fabric rollback roof and a power rear window to create an open-air driving experience. The cab and truck bed are integrated as one unit, with the front of the truck bed accessible via side access doors. Underneath, H3T is powered by a 350-hp, 350-lb-ft turbocharged variable-valve version of the Colorado/Canyon 3.5-liter inline five, mated to a four-speed automatic. A four-wheel-drive system sends power to specialized 19-inch multitraction tires developed by GM, Nike and BFGoodrich.

I dunno about this, it looks kinda wierd to me.

I have been wondering why they don't come up with an H3 that is smaller than the H2 and comparable to a Jeep in size and abilities. Both the H1 and H2 are pretty crappy offroad and owned by rich pricks that never even take them off road, it really limits their popularity. An H3 that could compete with Jeeps and fit down the trails would sell alot better to anyone with plans to go wheelin'

Oddly enough, I kinda like the new look. I agree though on the two other points. Most of what GM has to offer is ususally ugly. It would be nice if the new H3 was indeed smaller like the TJ Jeeps. In the end none of it matters for me since I wouldn't be able to afford it anyway.

Hey look, my first post.
