Since the intake threads for the plenum are very soft and easy to strip would it be wise/possible to put studs there instead?? Has anyone ever seen SS studs??

thanks
Ralph

Good question. I have a Power Plate to put in and have heard alot of stories about the bolts stripping  I don't want that to happen but if it does I need some ideas on how to deal with that.

I put studs on mine when I installed the Power Plate. Picked them up from Napa. :)

Do remember the size and length? Thanks

Might try getting used to what torquing things with a torque wrench and develope the feel for what say 18ft/lbs of torque is really like. It's extremely common for people to over tighten things, and have problems when the problem is from overtightening.
SS hardware is very soft compared to plain steel. Boat shops tend to handle the SS stuff, due to it's resistance to corrosion.

If you don't have a torque wrench just tighten them up evenly by hand with a regular length 3/8 rachet and socket and you should be fine. I use the German torque spec method, "guedentite". ..or was that half past stripped then one quarter turn more..? :D

Sorry, i don't remember.... :o

I just measured the thickness of the upper plenum, plus the power plate. I then screwed in the old bolt into the manifold to see how long of a thread (on the stud) I needed to go into the manifold. For sizing, take the old bolt with you. :)

UGH! I stripped a bolt installing a power plate in Vegas last year.. Had to remove the plate, RTV the plenum, and *lightly* torque the bolt using the remaining threads in that hole.. I am afraid to even glance at it, but it's held so far.... Jason Cramer mentioned that it would be "wise" to leave the plenum on while drilling/tapping in a heli-coil repair sleeve..

This is a GREAT idea, BTW... :D
