View Full Version : Stick with TE63...or go BIGGER?

The new combo is the following...
Ported heads and intake w/removed and welded EGR
PTE FM
TE63
60# high-Z's
Double pumper
Stock or possibly a small cam...maybe a 206/206
Girdled stock shortblock
3" DP, Hooker catback (already running)
10.5", 3200 lockup Pro-torque
I'll be moving to a 28"/10.5 ET Street (from a 26")
I basically have everything already, including the turbo with the exception of the girdle. It'll go to Eric at Dynotech for the convertor when everything else is on it.
Should I consider a bigger turbo...maybe a 72? Or will the 63 be enough?
I want to be able to put the car in the 10's, but will probably dial it back for the street.
Any opinions?

You should have enough turbo now to get really into or really close to the 10s. I'd probably leave it like it is for now but maybe bump the converter to a 3500 stall "just in case" you want to do any future turbo swapping.

How fast have you ran with this turbo? I wouldnt change it until you have provent that you can max it out. I think I remember in another post that you had run 120mph, but I could be thinking of someone else

Must have me confused with somebody else.
I've only ran 115mph with the current setup (TA49, 50's, big neck, 2800 l/u, Mease DP, Hooker catback).
The 63 is sitting on a shelf in my garage. :top:

Since the heads and intake are ported, why not step up to a little more manly camshaft? I have a little 206 in my Jobbie, but I gots no head work.
Damn, I wish I had way too much money. I wanna try combos that everyone says will not work. Like a huge cam. Of course that might hurt the smooth as silk idle that I got...

The 63 is a big step up from the 49, personally I would put it on and max it out first before going really big time. Once you start running 120+ on a regular basis then go for the gusto.
You could sell both turbos and get a bigger one for almost free

I'm expecting ~125 if I stick with the TE63.
Selling them both and buying a 72...hmmmmm...

T63 will go 10's without much drama.
Time in my sig was at about 26 psi, closed up hooker exh and the car went into OD also.
Only had a 1.63 60ft.
Guy down the road from me has been 129 mph with his T63 and a stock cam on 27-28 psi. :anbet:
I assumed you already had the 63. If you dont Id step past the 63 and get a GT67. Yea, its more turbo but it spools faster and the price isnt that far off of a 63.

I would max out the 63. Sean Nick was flying with that Turbo, I would run the balls out of it. It will put you where you want. Did I scare you because I got the 76 :add_wegbr
I am being quiet on what I am using on the White T LOL.
Drag that roach over and we will get it together, I will take the test drive. :arco:
Here is the 76 for the S2. :anbet:

Jay,
Yeah...I have the 63 already, but I could always sell it and the 49 that's on the car now and buy bigger.
Anyway...too late. Eric@Turbotweak is doing me a chip for the 60's, TE63 and PTE FM. I'm putting them on next weekend...I'll do the heads/intake later. My logic is simple. Right now I'm finishing up the Mustang, and I don't want to tear down the Regal until the Mustang is running and tuned. When I do the heads/intake on the Regal, I'm was going to girdle the stock shortblock. But if I'm buying time by doing the Regal combo in steps, I may decide to do a seperate shortblock for it (girdled, steel caps, forged pistons, cam), freshen the stock shortblock and store it. If not, I'll have a definite before/after comparison for these killer heads sitting on my shelf.
I'll be ordering my tires this week...should be ready to race by next week!
Don't worry Travis...I've got something for that 76, and it's belt driven. :burnout:

I would take a turbo over a centrifugal blower anyday. I do like the Novi 2000 though. Guy who built my engine built a 585bb for a boat with a Novi 2000. 800 horsepower on pump gas.

They have their positives and negatives.
Either will make more than enough power to do what I want with the Mustang. The Novi 2K will support 27psi and 980hp.
The Mustang combo was put together for a centrifugal...so I guess I'm stuck with it. I'll just have to suffer through the agony. ;)

Looks like it. Norbs has posted a few pics and even a vid of the 71 spooling up.
