View Full Version : 3rd Gear switch Bad?

When I looked at a recent run on my DirectScan I noticed it never lit the 3rd gear light,and I was well over a 110mph in OD.
Which switch is the 3rd gear switch on the Valve Body?

Are you saying it never went into 3rd, or is there a switch that tells the ECM which gear the tranny is in? Just trying to learn a little here.

yep there is two switches on the Valve body of the transmission one is for third gear the other is for fourth gear.
I checked another recording I had and it showed that the 3rd gear light didn't come on either.The car always goes into third,but the light never comes on,on the DirectScan screen.
What exactly do these switches control?

A lot of chips use the 3rd gear switch to cut back timing and/or boost. It's not hard to replace but you do need to drop the pan which sometimes means a trans fluid shampoo.
