Ive used the snap-on fasttrack seems to work well and will interchange between cars depending on the cartridge installed. talk to your dealer about used ones. quite a bit cheaper that way. wont help with any thing ealier than 82 though. it for ecm/pcm equiped cars. for the oldrer one go to a swap meet and get an old SUN analizer these can sometimes be had at reasonable prices

Get an MT2500 off ebay. Couple hundred bucks and you're golden. Most cases you'll even get OBDII capability too so you can charge your friends to turn off their MIL's. OTC stuff is CRAP.

I have a MT2500 (for VW (VAG) coverage) and a Solus for the rest. I traded in my second MT2500 for my Solus.

autoxray make some nice ones if you need to scan firstgen 80-94, obd 1 and 2
i use the xray 6000 model which also features recoring and ability downloading to pc for graphing review and works on many models not just gm

if all your looking for is a first gen (like the buick has) the OTC 2000 or 4000 is a cheap tool to pick up used , i used the 0tc2000 with the GM cartridge for years before going to the xray

if just for the buick the scanmaster is the best tool you could have in the car at all times and if logging is required for more advance trouble shooting or tuning add a laptop and DirectScan or the new turbologger

if you are looking for a cheap tool , the free program WINALDL (and newer version turbometerpro) works on several ecms , just need a laptop and to make a simple cable to connect to the aldl port

I went to otc website to try and see how much a basic scan tool would cost and they had an msrp of $1199 for an otc 4000. I thought they were out of their mind. I found the same scan tool at toolbarn.com for 500 bucks brand new capable years of 82 to 95
