slow moving on site

Can someone help. My computer gets real slow real fast,when I get in a topic and try and go back?? It just sets there and shows it is working (hour glass)
Probably my machine.Its kind of old 350 pentium,256 ram??,DSL,tests fast.
I keep the temp files dumped and run scan disc and defrag monthly?

1)try cleaning out temp files and cookies under each user, if on multiple user machine.
2)what version of anti-virus are you running? is it up to date?
3)what operating system are you running and what is the resource percentage?
4)how many programs are running at startup? (near time, bottom right)
5)have you tried checking for spyware? :fragez:

Thanks for the ideas,I will look into them.
Using 98SE,Norton anti virus up to date.Zone Alarm fire wall full edition.
My hard dive is less than half full.
I did dump a ton of temp int files (64meg)

BTW,start up programs are speaker,Norton,Zone Alarm,and DSL screens
I have a spy ware program,I guess I should use it more often.
