View Full Version : Too many RPMs?

The trans in my GN is getting ready to take a dump soon. When I replayed a Direct Scan run I notice on the 2-3 shift that RPMs went as high as 5850. I've never seen RPMs that high. Shifts used to be in the 5500 range, so it tells me the trans is slipping even worse than I imagined. What is the danger zone in terms of too many RPMs for these motors where I might hurt something? I'm afraid it's time I should probably park this car before I've got engine problems as well as transmission woes. :dong:
Anyone out there got a good deal on a trans? :dong:

If you're talking about a stock motor with no bottom end mods, depends on boost, etc, but I certainly would thing you're near or have exceeded the rpm limits that will keep it together much longer. 6,000 would be the limit I'd push one, even with billet mains.

Thanks Dave. Bottom end is stock. Ported irons and cam, running 23 psi and 26 timing.
Better stay out of the throttle till I get the trans fixed.
With good ported heads and cam, Ive always shifted my car(s) at 6000 RPM bottom end mods or not. Ive seen as much as 4 tenths difference between 5500 and 6000.

I shift mine at close to 6000rpm. Stock crank and rods, JE pistons, stock mains with RJC girdle.
