I have a question regarding SBC rod in a stage 1 block. The block I have and the rods are new crower 6" sportsman rod with the thru bolt style (170,000)lbs bolts. The engine is going in a light car 2600lbs so max HP will be around 750 but would like to support 900-1000. THe rods are a super stock rod rated to 500hp,max 8500rpm. Are these rods a usable piece for that HP? What type of SBC rod do you recomend for a 1000HP stage engine? Crower billets are rated at 800hp.I dont have a crank yet but do have a line on a turned BMS 3.4 and for maybe $700. If these dont work out I may just go back to buick rods, off center. How good are the stock buick rods with good bolts?

I wouldnt use the Sportsman rod at that level. As always, the best bet is a Carrillo or an oliver, you can pick them up reasonable on EBay. Most rods HP rating is based on a V8 engine, so if they were rated to handle 800 hp, they would only be good for 600 on a V6. The Chevy journal (both sizes available) are smaller than the Buick, so you need to determine what crank you have first.
