Hey Folks:

Before I post, I have to say - this is a really cool board! I love the format!

Anyway, I've noticed over the past year that some TR parts are becoming quite expensive. I notice it more with cosmetic items such as headlight bezels and things of that nature, but I'm starting to wonder if I should start stocking up on some more critical bits such as cam sensors and what not. In your opinion, do feel that there are some scarce sensors/parts that a wise TR owner should start stocking up on now before the price shoots through the roof or they get discontinued? I plan on keeping my car for a VERY long time so I would like to be prepared. I guess the only variable here is whether companies like Year One start making reproduction stuff or picking up the tooling to build some of the sensors, etc.

Seems like things such as the IAC motor are common to a few other vehicles, but I'm not really sure beyond the obvious ones like the MAF, etc.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions -
Rich

I have a bunch of NOS stuff sitting on the shelf, not for so much that GM may discontinue it, but for fear that I'll need one at 8pm on a Friday night or something...and chances are the local dealership may not even have it if they were open. I dont have a lot, but I've got a lota of the basics.

Coil pack
Maf
TPS
IAC
PM Switch
Accum
Upper and lower Rad hoses
Serp Belt
Knock sensor
o2's
crank sensor

Still need to get a few things, but I just have picked them up when I've seen them pop up over the years.

Ive got a lot of other stuff that I'm hanging onto tho that is becomnig hard to find like a set of NOS in the wrapper Black GN wheel well moldings, front bumper strip, 2 comp. sets of Ttype rim centers (now 50bux a pop) and other things that pop up :)

Joe:

If I cut off my left testicle, would you part with any of your wheel well moldings?

:inv:

That's a good list - I have probably 50% of it now. Think I'll go shopping for a belt, knock sensor, cam sensor and maybe an orig. maf if I can find one. Kirban was selling one recently, but at $375, I couldn't make myself write the check.

HAHA, well, I dont know what I would do with an extra ball ;)

I would think that with a lot of the extender chips and LS1 Mafs going on these cars there would be some good used MAFs floating around.

I know if I sell them, I'll end up needing them, ya know how that is! What do ya need? Contact me pvt.

Well, as far as sensors go these are the only ones that are TR specific that I know of. MAF,Cam & cam drive, ECS module. We all know the MAF is discontinued and the cam drive and sensor was but Delphi kicked out another batch at inflated prices and ECS modules never fail so I would say if you are trying to save a buck but have plenty of money to spend than stock up on these but if it was me I wouldn't really worry to much because everything else is used on the more common variety cars(read millions made) so I dont think they are going to discontinue them any time soon. Just look at the parts wanted and for sale forums and you can see if you need something for your TR than somebody always has one or knows where to get one. As for the rest of the parts, if there is something you want to replace you better buy it now. GM doesn't stock up on parts like they did a decade ago and prices are always increasing. On the plus side you can hoard all of this stuff and in 25 years if you haven't used it you can make a killing selling the stuff on eBay.

Things I would think about getting:
TTop seals if you have TTops, GMs seem to fit better than any aftermarket ones
AC Ignition Module, aftermarket ones dont seem to last as long
TR specific things like grills, hoods, etc

IACs, TPS, EGR, etc will all be around forever since they were used on so many vehicles and the cheap replacements work as well as the GM ones

As far as MAFs go switch to a LT1 or LS1 MAF and you car will run smoother and flow more air

For me it's the conveinence factor of if something breaks...I like to have shit there to get it fixed rather than calling around and scrambling to get the part...

We could always get someone to build a "Super Translator Plus" to replace all sensors with nice, cheap replacements.
