Hey guys new on here picking up my 1987 turbo t with stage 2 motor, precision 88 turbo,82lbs injecters,sx fuel pump, fast system,9" ford with 3.50 gears, spool 35 spline axles, ross 8.5 to1 buick motorsports rods, and crankstage 1 aluminum heads,1.65 rockers 72 mm tbody,3.5 downpipe, solid roller cam(in process of finding specs). I was wondering what my limit is on this combo... Injectors??? I have an 87 gn in the 11's, but not sure what I can run hp/quarter with the stage 2 car has gone 9.97@138. Do I have a good fuel pump(sx fuel pump). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I love my gn but I was sick of my big block freinds running me down. I was told this combo can run 9.5's is it true?????

Sounds like a car from LI we worked on a couple years ago installing a Wolfe bar suspension on it. nICE GUY AND VERY NICE CAR. I'm not crazy about the SX pump, I prefer the Aeromtive pumps. The 83's should get you to 9.50 and that combo should be able to run 9.50's pretty easy. I do prefer the 160 lb injectors with a turbo of that HP potential....

Thats the car I am picking it up saturday morning, he mentioned you and a couple other names. Would I be riding the fine line at 9.50's. I want to run as fast as I can with what it has. car claiming 9.97 @ 138 I'm not looking to run any classes just some track days and many street:asskickin

Sounds like you will be having some fun. Welcome to the club. I agree with Jack, I would make a pump change and for sure injectors if you plan on pushing it, or a smaller turbo if you don't plan on going as fast as the turbo can take you as a smaller turbo will be easier to deal with at the track.

My fun didn't last long!!!!!!!! I have a innovative electronic boost controller and set it to 17 and 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear and whooosh head gasket failure. Lost half the radiator out the heads and thru exhaust.Any idea why this would accur. I was running 93 octane and I lowered the boost from a race gas setting of 22lbs down to the 17lbs. I didn't get a look at the boost gauge(it all happened to fast) any ideas??? Am I an idiot???did I do something wrong with the boost controller(not familair with one yet).

unfortunately, no.. I think after our conversation running 93oct just doesn't make a lot of sense with an 88 turboed car ....

I pulled it apart and the drivers side head gasket melted from cylinder 1 to 3on the skinny part and blew to the outside in 2 places. The head itself melted in the same place 1 to 3 cylinder. WOW, shit happens real quick.  I was wondering if there's a trick to pulling the passenger side head off with studs and heater box in the car?:tantrum2: :tantrum2: :tantrum2: :mog:

Sorry to hear that........ welcome to our world.... You may be able to remove the studs from the top of the head or we have also lifted the head and backed them out from under the head. Another way is to "jack" the motor up and remove the motor mounts and drop the motor on the frame.... none of these ways are fun. Good luck, keep us updated....

IS the damage normal, and can the head be repaired any idea how much $$$$
And thanks again for the help:sad2:

I wouldn't call it normal.... but it is not unusual with a St motor and the extra bolts to see that kind of damage when we have a "whoops" moment. I would send them down to Tom at Champion and have him take a look. I've done it before myself when I lost a fuel pump at Etown...

you have such an elegant way with words.:tantrum2: :tantrum2: Here are pics of my destruction. I am guessing these are wire lock groves??? Do these gaskets look like the wire lock or are they the regular Mr gasket chompies??? I can get a better pic of the gasket if needed.

First off dump that SX pump and get a Weldon,Ive had 3 aeromotive pumps 2 pro series(both wore out,1 was my fault)and the current Eliminator series, which is being replaced(no problem yet with this one only used it for 5 passes) Im replacing mine with weldon,And definetly up the injectors to 160s unless you plan on never running high boost.Make sure your Fule pressure is raising 1 pound for every pound of boost,IF not bad things like above will happen.Best you get it back together and get someone with F.A.S.T tuning expertise check it out,I would hate to see you do this twice

Those are a bit ugley, but no where near as bad as Otto...... his looked like a big Woooops. I know when we spoke, you mentioned going to Billy Anderson, he's like 20 minutes away from you, that makes sense. He's an excellent tuner and should have any parts you need. If you run into a jam, give me a call, I'm not too far either. In fact I drove by Philly- Baltimore last nite on the way to MIR in Md today, could have stopped in if I had time.
As for the pumps, they are all good and occasionally someone has a problem with any of them out there. I love the Aeromotive been selling them for years and have had almost zero failures other than Otto not removing the foam from his fuel cell and a bunch of debri getting into his pump and taking it out. Poop happens, and then we move on. If you do need parts that Billy can't get, give me a call, I stock about everything.
good luck,

Otto J

Thats the one that was my fault, not even the foam fault as much as me shoving a funnell in hte fuel cell and chopping it up:thinking:

But my melt down was with a double pumper and a bad gas gauge
