that broken spring will make for a hard 1-2 shift and you mite have burnt the band for 2nd gear. what was in the pan when you droped it?

Pan was clean.

Also .. the tranny would shift fine if the TV cable was adjusted 2 clicks over what the throttle would pull it. ..That is why I thought I had a problem with the throttle valve.
place the car on a lift in manual lo and get it up to about 30 mph.now have someone pry the servo cover in and see if the transmission shifts to second .if it does there is not enough oil pressure arriving at the 2nd gear piston .install a pressure gage and verify pressure drop on a 1/2 shift .if its more than 20 psi there is a leak in the circuit.if there is pressure the band is burnt. :add_schac
