View Full Version : burp!

Okay, here goes! No one seems to be able to help on the other boards (or I'm just too stoopid to find the right thread or archive...)
Everytime I accelerate from a stop the engine sort of cuts out and the turbo burps; the led's max out my power goes away & then it picks up again :mad:It's like a dead spot. It's embarrassing enuf, but I'm skeert that I'm hurting the engine. My set-up is as follows:ScanMaster, Thrasher chip, RJC power plate, Bosch 237 fpr, 160*, cold air pkg, test pipe & engine is freshly rebuilt. I'll be putting in a Walbro pump & hotwire kit this weekend. (In case fuel delivery is causing this?) I'm stumped. No detonation on S/M, I've adjusted IAC & TPS. HELP!?!

p.s. New board...cool!

Some scan data would be nice. Is your voltage going down as this happens? Is there a flat spot in your TPS somewhere between idle and WOT? Coil pack resistance? Good wires? Swap out your module with a good one? A broken motor mount that lets the engine pinch a wire as you accelerate? Have you put a fuel pressure guage under your windshield wiper and gone for a test drive?

In addition to the basic things suggested above I would try another chip. It could be too lean or too fat on the bottom causing a loss of power. Swapping chips is easy and fast and another thing to rule out.

Also make sure you have no exhaust leaks that would kill your spoolup

Ya I would make sure no wires are getting pinched or grounded.

Wil try chip swap tonight. Will monitor the S/M in various modes (then someone will have to explain them to me, I am going by the data from the quick ref @ the gn/t-type website) will ohm out the wres & coil pack; do't have a spare module :dong: or a fuel pressure gauge :banghead: Thanks for the tips! Iwill keep y'all posted :anbet:

No one ever mentions this but it's really common.

Make sure your battery hot wire is not grounding on your starter shield. Usually when people put the hot wire back on, its not facing down, it's off to the side a little and when you accelerate, it will ground the hor wire into the shield and cause exactly the problem you are having.

Good luck

:burnout: Thanx!!

Also very common is the positive battery cable grounding on the passenger side header. When the engine torques over, it shorts the wire between itself and the crossmember. I chased that problem for a good week. :banghead:

What injectors are you running? 009s were notorious for this. Also, try unplugging your EGR and test drive.
