Need new shocks and looking at the Bilsteins. $300. Are they much better than a set of Sensitracs or KYBs? Kirban gets 305 for them.

I know on the GN TType list, they used to say you could get them for $55 apiece from autozone. I don't know if that price is still valid. WWW.Shox.com has them for about $220 a set + shipping. I've been looking at getting them this spring.

I'm sure others will say different, but I ran Monroe Sensa-Tracs for several years until I came across a good deal for Bilsteins from a private seller. I must say that they're is a difference you can feel in ride comfort and handling. I don't think I'll buy Monroes again.
If you come across some, I suggest you pick 'em up. Good deal.

Yea, just called AZ...they dont price match on these...60 each, so 240 for the set....not sure what shox.com gets for shipping, may equal out in the end. Haven't done anything to the Buick all winter. I'm feeling the urge to spend a little on it. LOL

Joe, I bought mine from www.allshocks.com a month ago.
They shipped next day and had a good price. $59.95 ea
Just an other option. Here is a link to the GN shocks: http://www.allshocks.com/bilstein/html/show_shocks.asp?make='BUICK'&model='Regal,%20Grand%20National,%20GNX%20(RWD)'&year='1987'

The Bilsteins are worth every penny.
2 years ago I pai $53 a piece, at Autozone for them.
Lots of gas shocks are just too stiff, IMO, like the KYBs.

Found them on www.eshocks.com for 59.95 each with free shipping on orders over $200. $239.80 for a set. Last I looked, I think it was $18 for shipping for a set of bilsteins from www.shox.com

Back in '95 when I purchased my GN I put a set of KYB's on, worked OK.
Last year I bought a set of Bilsteins, much better ride and handling.
Well worth the money in my opinion.

I am going to order some of these also. Is there any special set I should order or part number, or just get the basic stock replacements?

Hmmm. confused.... the Bilsteins are gas shocks too, no? I had KYB's, just put on Bilsteins and they are MUCH stiffer. Some people like it, some don't. I know many people have said the KYB's are better for drag racing, but that's just another opinion...

How do these work on a street strip car? Anybody go racing? What do your cars 60ft?
The Shocks in my car are a little soft my my liking but probably pretty good for launching... Don't wanna kill that. :)

For a TTA I'd go with KYB AGX - the new 5-way adjustable ones - hands down over Bilstein. I'm not sure if they started making them for TR's. I should have checked before I just bought my Bilsteins!

Here's a copy of the last run I made with my car, Joe. Very little done to the car. Am running Bilsteins and boxed control arms. ET Streets (DOT) and closed exhaust. This was on a very good track, but I normally run low 1.6 60's.

No, at this point I am not. Going to see what these 8k mile springs will do. Only reason I am changing the shocks is cause there are air lift shocks in the rear to accomodate the 17" rims on the car. I'm going to shift the body slightly so that should not be a problem.

Hey Guys -
I know a lot of people have chimed in, but the answer to your question is an enthusiastic YES. Worth every penny and, at least to me, one of the top three mods I've performed on my car in terms of overall night and day improvement.
I think Shox.com can get a set to your door for around $220, which is what I paid over the summer.

I bought mine for 300 for the set from ATR. That was a loooong time ago. About 1991 or so. I can look at it like I paid too much or I can look at it like I've been driving around on some great shocks for a long time. I choose the later.

Ben - from what I've read, those Eibachs can make the front end actually sit a little higher than the rear - not very noticeable to most people, but do a search on some other boards for threads about Eibachs. That is the main reason that I decided against going with them. It's almost like they didn't quite dial in the correct height for the fronts.
This could have been fixed by now though, not sure....

How long do coil springs last? Mine have 80k on them. Is it a waste of time to do the bilsteins and skip the springs? I have too many projects going now to do the springs also
granitestategn

Do the shocks even if you cant get to the springs right now. My springs have a few more miles than yours and they sag a little, but not too bad. If it were me I'd do the shocks.

Thanks. I already ordered the shocks and should get them the end of the week. My car gets a little bounce going on the highway which is annoying, and I think the shocks are making the car bounce when I launch unloading the suspension and killing my 60 foots.
I look at the sag as a free lowering kit :thrashi:

Don't you like "go fast" yellow? It's gotta be worth at least 0.1 in the 1/4. I left mine in their natural color. I've come to like the contrast when viewed from the rear. Regardless, they are great shocks!

I installed the rear Bilsteins (after painting black) and then went to test and tune this afternoon. The Bilsteins raised the rear height by 1/2" (27.5" to 28.0") on the ps while the ds remained at 27.5". At the track, my 60' times were 1.903, 1.840. 1.747 and 1.874. They were consistent 1.7x's before changing to the Bilsteins. I guess I need to learn how to launch with the new shocks.
I still have to install the front Bilsteins.
