I posted this on the TBs.com board but aint gettin any help. Im about to torch the frame on the buick to try and get a great big DR and W tire on the car for some local 1/8 mile junk.. IS THIS LEGAL? Im starting on it this weekend so Id like to know before I start. I dont want to change something and have it bite me in the a$$ later .(ie. turbo turned sideways) I figured this board gets more of the actual racers cruising by than the other boards.:nixweiss:

Hard to say whether it's legal for the local 1/8th mile stuff, when we don't have the rules. As for TSO legal, it was legal when it was done, but was fixed when the rules were clarified. I'm sure Billy could figure this out for you. If you need help fitting a bigger tire give me a call, I don't always respond quickly to posts.
Your are right, about where most of the racers "hang out".

Not sure how tight or loose tech was at any of the past races on proper frame notching to rules:confused: Guess it will be tighter now.
In any event, I believe most require that the original back side of the frame must be present & intact (Not moved). Reinforcing the back side of course is permitted.
In my case we reinforced the the back side first, then cut back to the original backside (Just area needed for tire clearance) . Then faced off flat, the original front side removed & welded that back on with taper for a oem cosmetic look. Sorry don't have any pics.
Joe
PS Ted that pic doesn't look legal per rule:confused:

10.5 Buick Limited Street??? Going to be run at GS Nationals this year and Indy.

Ladder bars ok as is turbo relocation and frame notching. BUT you would have to run a true 10.5 unless you went with a drag radial or DOT slick. Unless of coarse, v-8 guys on "the can" scare you. :icon16:

The outer rail is moved over to the inner rail location and the old inner rail is now considered reinforcement.

well if thats the case the one that i posted is moved in its almost not even there so I better go with the 2nd pic correct? Just want something concrete because once its cut that far how do you fix it. (Cal if this is your car.)

Jeff not sure how much more tire clearance you need for the W's.?
If I remember correctly, cutting back to the original back side of frame, with reinforcing, we gained slightly more than 2 1/4".

I need a little if I take my spacer out it hits the frame if I leave it in its a CH from fender. Thats a big damn tire
Otto J
02-09-2006, 08:12 PM
Jeff that tire will be that close on both sides if done by GSCA rules, will most likey rub when turning hard,ITs a damn snug fit
On another note,As long as the inner frame rail inthe pic is reattched in the stock place,i dont see why there will be a porblem,THe rear frame has to frame mounts that if are still stock bolted to the body it should be easy to line it back up stock,But considering Cals car doesnt look like that anymore, it wont be a problem,Ted on the other hand with the ladder bars,Godd luck getting that thru peer tech

My inner frame is now my outer frame and is in the stock location. I told you before, if you need help fitting a larger tire give me a call, or better yet, climb under my car and take some pictures at BG. Sounds like it might be beyond your abilities.

Jeff just curios why you would need any info on this subject. Im sure Bill A knows how to fit that tire in a GN.You must have one of those hidden agendas those Jersey guys speak of all the time.
Cal, how does it feel to be under a bus?

Otto, I need infor on this subject beacuse I just got the lanyard off that was tied around my ankles and used to drag me under a bus last year in tech.really doesnt have much to do with you just keep your trap shut in person like you usually do KEYBOARD MONKEY.I dont know about any agenda or jersey guys or WTF that means? I still dont see how you can move it so far and then move it back the exact factory location when the factory location is gone!(you guys seem to have a problem with my definition of location anway) If EVERYONE follows the rules EXACTLY as they are written there should be no problems.
I would love to call and chat Mr Hartthrob but I dont have your number feel free to call me. 410-490-8405

Dont understand how you feel that way you got to race right? You were deemed legal last year to race right? So there should be no lanyard tied to your ankles.

I still dont see how you can move it so far and then move it back the exact factory location when the factory location is gone!
What you see was in the factory stock location (not moved in) EXCEPT for the last 3-4 inches where the curve was bent in. From the front, over the axle and back down are all the inner frame rail IN THE STOCK LOCATION. The top, bottom, and outer frame edges have all been removed. Since the photo (years ago), the last 3-4 inches were bent back over to the stock location.
If you still can't figure this out, bring me the car and I will do it for you.
My number is on the same website you found the photo, based upon your understanding of frame notching, I'm not suprised you didn't find it. I'll make it easy for you:

Give me a break. I dont know where all of this drama is coming from I could care less if the damn frame under your car is legal or not it should be if your the head of TSO. Why can't everybody just get along? If people have problems with each other why don't they just talk about it directly instead of beating around the bush like this thread obviously has.
Bottom line, a bunch of people share common interests and at times it seems that everybody forgets that we all have that in common.

He has run damn near your best time using drag radials and a 76 turbo, Not Big Slicks with a 47-88 T5 turbo with a Tin wing,NOW, Ill go hang up my pom poms for the evening

About time you reached down and grabbed a pair, too bad they weren't your own! Keep Duct taping parts on your gutted race car and perhaps one day it will go as fast as mine has. The only accomplishment you have, is the TSO car with the most parts to fall off. :sux2bu:
