Installed a VDO oil pressure gauge in my daily driver T-type a few weeks ago. Finally got around to messing with it today.....cleaned off the teflon tape on the sender (read that VDOs ground through the sender and block) and it still wont work. I also read something about having to run 14 gauge wire? I ran 16, whats the big deal? Any ideas? Electrical guage, never had a problem with autometers.........whats the deal with this VDO? Thanks

I would run a separate 12 volt wire from a battery to the gauge to verify that the gauge even works first. When I run long wires I always use 14 gauge. I know its overkill but it never hurts. If it still doesnt work you may still have tape in the threads in the block killing your ground. Otherwise you may have a bad sender

Sender was bad.......... :) Im not going nuts! I can wire a simple gauge!
Ditch the electrical guage, too inconsistant. Get a mechanical guage with the copper line and you will always know what the oil pressure is. I had a electrical one before, and pitched it for my mechaical one.

Never mind that the electric gauges only have a 90 degree sweep so they are alot harder to read.
And yes, definately use a copper line on mechanical gauges, NHRA also requires it to race so if you use the nylon one and get caught, you will get booted before you even make a pass unless there is someone with some extra copper line in the pits and you change it out.

You didn't happen to have a sender for an idiot light, did you? If so they work as a simple on/off instead of varying the resistance with pressure changes.

How did you determine it was bad? Did you have them send out another to try? Glad you got it figured out
