i was planning on either a 214-224 or 218-224 hyd flat tappet cam for my 4.1 build. would the 212-212 roller work just as good or would i benefit for more duration. my feeling is since its not gonna be a really hi rpm motor (6000 max id say) i should keep the duration low and lift higher. whats the differences in lift b/w the 3 cams? dont rollers have quicker lift speed or something? is a 218-224 or 214-224 cam considered a real big race cam or is it good enough for what i want? i dont want the car to crap out over 5000 like the stock cam. id like a idle to 6000 cam that makes the most power. could comp make me a roller to those specs?

A real big race cam would be something up in the 250 to 276 or so duration ranges. So no, neither of those cams would be considered radical. Either of those cams should be able to take you to 6000, although I would condsider something around 220's for a good solid 6000 range. Yes roller cams have a quicker ramp. Are more expensive, but less troublesome in the long run. Also takes a little more expertise to get one set up properly.

But then again, if a proper break in isn't done on a flat tappet cam, disaster will soon follow.

whats ur vote then for a flat tappet? 214-224 or 224-224? both from flatlander racing.

I personally am not a huge fan of split profile cams on turbo motors (but I'm certainly no expert). However, that said, and your aim for 6000 comfortable rpm, then I'd definately go for the 224-224.

We like the 221/221 "Spec-2", flat tappet hydraulic cam. It is my favorite.

I personally feel that a roller cam is a waste of time, money and reliability in a "street car".

BUT .............. Everyone has their own preferences.

We have been using the CPP "Spec-2" successfully for MANY years in everything from Janace's "ZR-WHAT" to a 9.70 drag car. (OK with the TH200-4R but too small for the TH-400.)

Well mannered, reasonably cheap, reliable and works.

Have a nice day.
